Chuck Schumer, CNN, Larry King, RIGHT NOW!
He's talking about the Alito nomination and there's a puke there for "balance".

1. What's happening?

I can not look at Larry King - how he can be on prime time is beyond me.

I'm not joking! Actor Al Lewis, covered in green make-up, is better-looking than Larry!

I guess when someone touches your life in some positive way, perhaps you see them from a different angle. Maybe you are more swayed by what's inside.

When that someone provides assistance in kind to people who cannot afford cardiac medical care, that carries some weight with me.

Larry does have a nice looking son, Larry King, Jr. Can Al Lewis say the same?

10. Well, how will YOU look in your seventies? Any idea?

http://www.mugshots.com/Celebrity/Larry+King.htm

(He should have smiled and taken off those awful glasses. But all the myopic guys were wearing those black frames in the 1970s. And nobody smiled at the police camera -- except the recent mugshot of Tom DeLay!)

I dated him briefly in the 1950s. I was the co-host of a successful children's television show in Miami in college. He was in his twenties when I was in my late teens. He was a talented radio disk jockey. We met up again after I was divorced and had two small kids. I was in my thirties and became his "screener," the person who answers the telephone before the call goes on the air. I took over his all night show when he was arrested four days before Christmas (photo from that terrible night is above). As a result of his financial troubles, I was able to support my two kids and bootstrap myself to a daytime radio job in Boston, one of the female radio pioneers with a full-time talk show four hours a day and six days a week.

Larry was never "handsome" in the traditional sense, but he is witty and wild. Although I didn't end up in a permanent relationship with him, he helped re-start my broadcasting career. We worked together and I have a lot of respect for how far he has come in his life since that time. He sorted out all kinds of difficulties, came through many physical difficulties himself, maintains a very successful career when other men are out golfing -- and came out on top. Don't judge a book by its cover, please!

In peace,

Radio_Lady

14. Great story Radio Lady. I enjoyed Larry's show during the late 80's
and through the Clinton years. I got bored with all the features about the "royals" and Tammy Faye Bakker and fell from viewership.

I do appreciate his wit in interviews with Billy Crystal and other "hip" artists.

15. When he was in Miami, he interviewed entertainers and comics who
came through town. I really don't remember him arguing with anybody -- the lead in was an arch-conservative named Alan Courtney who was the political guy on the air from 8PM to 11PM.

Remember, this was local radio and it was a totally different concept from today. Also, Larry's show was on from 11PM to 5AM on 50,000 watt WIOD. We had listeners all over the place, including on ships at sea and up the East Coast. On cloudy nights, we even had "skywave" callers from remote states. It was a unique time and he was a unique talent.

Larry King's local television show was all about sports; and he had a column for a tiny newspaper called the Miami Beach Sun. He lost everything for years, but I believe he climbed his way back and up the ladder to whatever you mean by success. He's made peace with all of his kids except one and is still galavanting in LA with some of his old buddies from Brooklyn.

I can only wish him a long life and happiness. He inadvertently helped me by losing his show; I just happened to be there when the difficulties swallowed him up.

By the way, I rarely listened to his Westwood radio show -- it was on too late for me when I was raising all my kids. Now I watch him occasionally, but not regularly at one of the three times the show airs here on the Pacific Coast. I prefer Keith Olbermann's program and I do miss Aaron Brown. I hope he resurfaces somewhere.

17. Larry In The 70's On Mutual Was Breakthrough Radio
A lot of the things people hear today on AAR came out of Larry's Mutual program...that's where I first heard him in the Mid 70's. He conducted the first national open lines and for the most part was quite liberal in his opinions. In fact, the term "whacko" came from King's descriptions of anyone on the right.

He also was an excellent interviewer as he had the unique ability to remain curious in asking questions. While it looks real kitchy now with the psychics and burned-out celeb, it was refreshing in those days to hear him mix it up with politicians and celebrities alike. He had the ability to pull something out of his guests and make even the most lame interview sound interesting.

I had the pleasure to meet Larry at a Mutual Radio affiliate's meeting in the 80's and had the chance to interview him. He was a wealth of stories and great advice. Yes, he was the type who would go out of his way to help someone in the biz and his story of growth and perseverence is truly inspiring. One great piece of advice I took away was a big key to his interviewing styles. One was that the one thing a guest can talk about more than anything else is themselves...talk about them and let them direct where the interview goes and a trust builds. Second is to listen back to an interview...take the tape and stop it 10 times...if you hear your voice on it more than 3 out of the 10 stops, you're talking too much. Great advice...sadly not followed too often.

Peace...

4. First few minutes of Chuck Schumer and what's his name the Repuke --
Replays at 9PM and 12 Midnight in the Pacific Time Zone. Check your CNN stations for local listings.

Star Jones has lost 150 pounds. She was at 300 lbs. at her top weight. She looks beautiful.

I'm working on the last 30 pounds.

She's an inspiration.

8. I think she's wonderful, bright, and interesting -- and we share a name!
Mom gave me the middle name of STAR in 1939! I was named after the comic strip Brenda, Star Reporter. I think Star's original name is Starlet, if I'm not mistaken.

I doubled the "R" with usage, so now it's STARR -- but I actually use my maiden name as a middle name now.

12. Here's my motivation: My 50th High School Reunion is scheduled

for October 2006 in Florida.

I have ten months to figure this out -- a mouth that is working on feeding me better -- and I'm a member of a 24 Hour Fitness Center just 1/2 a mile away and open all night -- with beautiful young people -- and some older codgers like me -- on the treadmills and in the pool and lifting weights at all hours!

I'm getting the message.

Thanks for your good wishes!

In peace,

Radio_Lady
