What Does "Conservative" Mean?
Edited on Thu Apr-27-06 05:26 AM by Syrinx
I always thought it meant "small government" and individual rights and "traditional" values.

Can anyone cite me a case where the "conservatives" in Washington stand for small government, individual rights, or traditional values?

It seems to me that they stand for big, wasteful, authoritarian government, with a compulsion to overturn every "American" ideal?

Don't they stand against individualism at every turn?

Aren't they advocating, and worse, implementing, a police state here at home, while they campaign on overthrowing dictatorships abroad?

Am I so stupid that I don't understand? Am I missing something?

1. It likely means you are clones to your corporate sponsors.
Yes, liberals can be sell outs. Like DLC types. But, true liberals have an adgenda that regulates corporate largess. Won't see corporations controlling a philosopy that attempts to control their wrongs. Such as Enron type activities and other monopolistic practices.

2. The right wing in Washington are Neo Conservative
That is the new type of conservative where nothing is what it once was thought to be. It is where they put the CON in conservative.
Cheat to get what you can, Buy what you can't get by cheating and if that doesn't work, just steal it.

8. Pat Buchanan
wrote a book, "Where the Right went Wrong," that outlines the differences between the traditional conservative and the Bushies.

Anti-Communism, IMHO, kept Conservatives single-minded for several decades and when the Berlin Wall went down they lost their rudder.

12. I'm Conservative!
Edited on Thu Apr-27-06 07:07 AM by iamahaingttta
I've got long hair and a tan, I play electric guitar in a punk band, I smoke a lot of pot and watch South Park religiously, and I'M CONSERVATIVE!

I believe we should conserve our natural resources, spend public money sparingly and stay the hell out people's personal lives. Why? Because I'M CONSERVATIVE!

I take public transportation and don't even own a car, I turn off the lights when I'm not in the room, I took my then girlfriend to the abortion clinic all those years ago, the only (small) investment that I have is in alternate energy (steam wells) and I'm politically slightly to the left of Che. Why?
BECAUSE I'M CONSERVATIVE!!!

It's a crazy mixed up upside-down world!

13. liberals almost always respect privacy.
Look at so called conservatives running the Repug party. Respect privacy. Libertarians respect privacy. Conservatives. they are all too happy to come up with some new super Snoop agency planting bugs under your mattress. all in the iterests of making sure you're moral enough and don't espouse unpopular ideas.
