The Ava phenenon....

With all of the attention that Ava, the fifteen year old anti war activist is getting lately, I am reminded of a movie I saw many years ago, called, "Amazing Grace and Chuck." Maybe a few of you have seen it. Please bear with me: I won't bore you with the details, except to say that in the movie, a teenager protested the nuclear arms race, ultimately getting the attention of the country, which caused a president,(Gregory Peck) sympathetic to the young man's cause to get serious about stopping the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

The young man's cause became a groundswell of support, which became a movement, until finally the entire country was demanding something be done.

This is where Ava comes into today's picture. There is an anti-war movement in this country, to be sure. And maybe the tipping point has been reached. Maybe not. There are still way too many people who are for this damned war. Ava is one of those rare people who have captured the American interest, transcending age barriers with wisdom far beyond her years, by acting on her strong beliefs. Her simple, yet powerful short montages put to music could very well be the catalyst for the overwhelming movement needed to put an end to this madness. After all, it is her generation of young men and women who are fighting and dying for other people's oil.

Good luck, Ava, God speed and keep up your important work. I'm with you all the way.

2. I haven't heard, but I hope so.

If she does appear on MTP, I hope Russert isn't condescending toward her.

3. Given their relative intelligence, I fear she may have to condescend
But she'd be sweet about it.

5. Ava is a truly remarkable human being.

All of Washington D.C., and many here at DU, including myself could learn a thing or two from her.

9. When they attack Ava, say they're persecuting her because she's Christian
Ava's doing a great job.

I heard her interview on KLSD, and she sounds exactly like what we need.
