Mercy's attacker caught
Edited on Thu Apr-27-06 01:33 PM by movie_girl99
I'm not sure if this has been posted. I did a search but did see it. This poor dog was tortured and left for dead. Thanks goodness her attacker was caught today and IMO his punishment should be exactly what he gave to her.
UPDATE - SUN, APRIL 23 - 10:30 PM

Mercy, the 10-month-old puppy who was doused with gasoline and set on fire, has died. Her little heart just gave out.

She was a gentle soul who showed remarkable strength and courage - she inspired us all!

Mercy died Sunday evening, April 23rd at about 9:30 p.m. at the veterinary clinic where she was being treated. Doctors said Mercy showed some
improvement Saturday, but her condition started to deteriorate Sunday afternoon. She was given a plasma transfusion, but shortly afterward her
heart--weakened by burns over 60% over her body--stopped beating.

5. He'll probably get a slap on the wrist...
This story brought tears to my eyes and my dogs came running. So they all got a little love out of the deal.

10. Might depend on where this happened.
Edited on Thu Apr-27-06 01:50 PM by SacredCow
an article said it was a felony, but I don't think that's the case everywhere. Cruelty to animals used to be a misdemeanor in my town (it may be different now, but I can't say for certain). I vividly remember a trashy neighbor committing an atrocity. We called the police, and he was given some insignificant fine. Ugh. didn't need to revisit that block of memory lane.....

Edited to remove the specifics of the incident, after reading the requests not to post.

6. I have been amazed at the public outcry for this puppy
This shelter is near where I live and people came out of the wood work to donate for her medical bills. It's so hard to imagine how anyone could do such a thing.

19. I know, how terribly awful and sick! but
something that awful must have been done to him as a child. Something made him the way he is.

23. no, there isn't, but
I just see him as a child that was abused like that poor dog and it makes me so sad more than raging angry.

17. It isn't your fault
This stuff just makes me really, really upset. I'm glad he was caught, and I hope your state laws allow the judge to give this sociopath some real prison time.

18. It's okay
It's just heartbreaking for some of us to read this stuff. For myself, even without pictures, I'm too good at envisioning the scene and those images stick with me thereafter.

Thanks for sharing that they caught the sick so-and-so. If only it were always the case.

13. Studies have shown that many serial killers, etc,
started out torturing and mistreating animals. That is one reason why fines/imprisonments for animal cruelty have been stiffened in many states.

15. Dogs are the very embodiment of unconditional love, precisely...
the love our pagan ancestors saw as the defining attribute of the All-Mother, the love our American Aboriginal cousins saw as undeniable proof of an ultimately benign Holy Mystery, the real-world model for the love the Christians attribute to Jesus. That someone might reject such love is scarcely understandable; that someone would seek to destroy it is beyond comprehension.

May the perpetrator of this unspeakably fell deed be afflicted by its total karma, and may his suffering be intensified by the Rule of Threes -- now and throughout all his remaining lifetimes. So Mote It Be.

16. Animal Cruelty now carries Felony Sentence in 41 States (map)
http://www.americanhumane.org/site/PageServer?pagename=ta_state_issues_cruelty_summary

Animal Cruelty Legislation

Thanks to the tireless efforts of animal welfare groups and concerned citizens throughout the country, animal cruelty now carries a felony sentence in 41 states plus the District of Columbia. But we can't stop there -- other states need our help! And American Humane needs your help!

(The states in green have made Animal Cruelty a felony.)
