Sensenbrenner has over a half mil in Exxon Mobil stock
Speaking to a Congressional committee this morning, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke raised concerns that high gas prices are hurting the U.S. economy. With gas prices over $3.00 a gallon in Wisconsin, energy policy will likely become a major issue in this year’s mid-term elections. While politicians from the local level all the way up to President Bush are calling for investigations and relief, the Republican incumbent from Wisconsin’s 5th Congressional District hasn’t been working to find a solution to the problem. His opponent, Bryan Kennedy, thinks he knows why.

“Jim Sensenbrenner owns over a half of a million dollars in Exxon-Mobile stock, a company that announced record setting profits this morning. He’s also got well over a quarter million dollars in BP stock. It’s no wonder that he hasn’t done anything to lower gas prices,” said Kennedy. “Every time we fill up our cars with gas, Jim Sensenbrenner can laugh all the way to the bank.”

Unfortunately, Sensenbrenner’s ties to high gas prices don’t stop with his personal pocketbook. Sensenbrenner has taken thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from oil PACs, including Exxon-Mobile, ConocoPhillips, Marathon Oil, and Halliburton Co.

A financial disclosure filed in May of 2005 indicated that Sensenbrenner owns 9,728 shares of Exxon-Mobile stock, which he valued at $579,788.80. The same number of shares today makes his stock worth $610,140.16. The same filing shows him with 3,604 shares of BP stock, which would be valued at $265,650.84 today.

Kennedy said that he supports an investigation of big oil companies for price-gouging and ripping off the American consumers. He also called for ethics reforms that will make it harder for corrupt Congressmen to profit off of the backs of their constituents.

2. Couldn't it just be
that he's far better at his investments then he'll ever be as
a Senator??
Good investors go where the 'momentum' is!
I'm sure he's not abusing his position in the Senate,
after all he is with the GOP, the values and 'rule of law'
party isn't he? :+

15. He's a Rethug Representative.
Pray they never elect that pompous pig as a Senator. He's thoroughly repulsive -- to say the least.

of President Clinton, like he was clean as the driven snow. I bet he is one of those phony Fristians too.

4. Unfortunately...
I have some of it too, I just couldn't stay out of the sector when I could see this nightmare unfolding. I have nowhere near what Sensenbrenner has though, nowhere near.

I also bought some defense stock when shrub was elected, call it an educated guess, but they did pretty well when dimson started his little campaigns in the middle east.

25. Yepp, unfortunately
I wish I didn't have to invest like a republican but when I look at the potential of a quarter of a million dollars to send my daughter to school in 17 years I have to be aggressive with investments and that meant buying up energy stocks when I saw what shrub was doing in Iran. It also meant investing in defense stocks when I saw that megalomanical prick elected in 2000.

I really don't see any relief on the horizon for anybody less than unbelievably wealthy
No end in sight to increases in the cost of living with raises and promotions not even covering that and hidden tax increases by the repukes in government.

22. I don't think I can blame the average person for owning stock
but when its a Congressman who is in cahoots with the oil companies, credit card companies, and pharmaceutical companies and doesn't have the slightest bit of loyalty to the people of his district, its pretty annoying.

12. he's got the money and he's an incumbent
So I'm still worried. He's got almost $741,000 in campaign funds; his challenger, Bryan Kennedy has just under $84,000.

Still, I think the Republican corruption stain definitely applies to this guy. Hopefully my neighbors will wise up and give him the boot.

Kennedy is a D or R?

etc.

Ol' Oil Sensor is a major obstacle to our cause. That can we do to help yall to get the Oily Millionaire out of the house and chained up in the yard where he belongs?

18. Bryan Kennedy is a Dem.
Edited on Thu Apr-27-06 05:10 PM by ginnyinWI
He ran against JS in '04 and got about a third of the vote--that means only having to switch about 20% more to our side! Kennedy's currently on leave from his day job as a professor at the Univ. of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Nice guy--met him a few times. He's got a lot of info on his website about himself and about ol' JS. Last election he had a whole booklet he passed out on JS's corrupt connections--JS has been a bad boy for a looong time.

He's going to get the grassroots going later this year, and plan on getting in on some of that volunteer work.

Why would people want that sensenbrenner in congress when he has no incentive to lower the oil prices?

23. Why would people want Sensenbrenner in congress
When, as head of the judiciary committee he was ruthless in going after Clinton, but utterly refuses to hold Bush accountable

And there's the bankruptcy bill

And there's the immigration issue

And there's the Terry Shaivo case

Wherever something stinks, there's Sensenbrenner in it.
