Kyl's Lead cut in half in Arizona for re-election. We might win this one!
We wanted to let you know about some exciting campaign news. A new independent poll released this week shows that in the last few months Jim Pederson has cut Jon Kyl's lead in half.

The poll conducted by the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at ASU shows that Jim trails Kyl by just 11 points - 42-31, with 27 percent undecided. Three months ago, an ASU poll indicated Kyl had a lead of 22 points.

Clearly, Kyl knows he's vulnerable. Every day, Arizona voters are learning about the Kyl record as lap-dog-in-chief for the Bush Administration.

The ASU poll comes on the heels of last week's Survey USA poll, which showed that 42 percent of Arizonans disapprove of the job Kyl is doing, while just 45 percent approve.

Kyl has spent 20 years in Washington as a bitter partisan, who looks out for special interests before the people of this state. But this November, Arizonans will have a chance to make a change and elect Jim Pederson.

2. To win back the Senate we have to pick up seats like this that
are not front and center on the radar like Ohio, Mo, and PA. This is a great opportunity. If an incumbent is under 50% and he is well below--then it's doable.

4. Too bad TIME declared him one of the "ten best" senators
Like he's not going to hammer that into voters' heads with his ad campaign. Let's hope for a good Peterson campaign and a Democratic wave.

6. What I find funny is that when somebody posts an '08 post
you get a dozen or so people who come on and say, "Hey, you can't talk about '08--let's concentrate on '06!" and yet when somebody, like you posts about an important '06 Senate race, nobody hardly posts and it gets bumped down.

Funny, huh?

8. Long term and short term planning....both are important.
But I do think it is a tad premature to settle on '08 candidates. Speculating about it, sure, beginning to look hard at certain candidates, of course. Let's just don't forget that '06, this year, is as, if not more important. We need every step forward we can make. That's why I like Howard Dean, he's using a Wellstone approach.

I think bickering about '06 vs '08 is beside the point. ;)

10. Go, Jim Pederson! And get your program together for...
1. Monitoring the vote count, electronic voting machines and election officials' behavior in every precinct.

2. Independent exit polls.

3. Lawyers ready to challenge suspicious results.

Congressional bills:

Russ Holt's HR 550 requires a real paper ballot, bans secret software in "voting machines", and has more than 170 co-sponsors, but the audit required is too weak, it promotes electronic voting and centralized power, and the secret software might be permitted to continue in the central tabulators (the bill is not clear). (Note: Senate Bill-SB 330 and House-HR704 simply require a "voter verified paper audit trail" (VVPAT), which may be best for the moment.)
