1. With all the cameras, you would indeed be foolish to do so. (nt)

2. no cameras in Afton but the guys behind the counter watch closely
if they don't know you. They told me they had to peel out after a guy in a contractor truck drove off... They caught him about 5 miles down the road - he went back and paid up saying he was on the phone with one of his workers - was really p'od and drove off still yelling at him - totally forgot to pay.

The gas guys said they believed the story cuz they had heard him yelling into his cell phone as he filled up....

But I notice they are keeping a closer look-see out the window at the pumps now than they ever used to.

5. Well I'll tell you what happened to one of my relatives....

...They were at a full-serve station and had the guy fill the tank. When the gas station worker asked for payment, she proceeded to hand him her credit card. She was told that they couldn't accept the credit card because she was supposed to tell them she was paying with a card BEFORE the gas was pumped.

Next, she offered to give them the $30 she had on her and she would go get the rest of the money and bring it back.

They told her if she drove off, they would call the sheriff.

Next, she asked if she could use their phone to call someone to bring some money to the station for her. They said NO!

She didn't know what to do, as there were really no options. So, she walked next door to another business (leaving her car at the station) and called a relative. In the meantime, the assholes CALLED THE SHERRIF on her!!

Now the lawyer in the family is threatening lawsuit against them for retaining her against her will, and refusing to accept payment.

So, be careful folks. There are some real idiots out there.

You cannot pump first. You must go inside.

8. Every self serve place I have every been to is pay first, then pump.
From DE out here to CA, I have never seen a pay after you pump place.

Then again I also come from the only state in the union where self serve is outlawed, New Jersey.

12. Not counting the pay-outside credit card pumps,
ALL the pumps I know of in WI are pay-afterwards. I think maybe a few late at night switch to pay first.

10. What can you do?
You get out and find a gas station that doesn't assume you guilty until proven innocent. You get out and find a gas station that doesn't extort money from you prior to pumping gas. That's what you can do.

9. Here in Raleigh NC most everything is prepay. It's a pain for
those of us who like to use cash, but want to fill the car up.

11. I Haven't Seen The Stickers Yet
But I can imagine "pump & runs" are happening more frequently. I haven't seen a gas station set up to allow you to pump gas before paying for it in about fifteen years.

15. I worked at a C-store in Texas for awhile. Crappy job, btw.
If some lowlife pumped gas and drove off, we clerks had it deducted from our pay. The Clerk on duty was responsible for the drive off. It thankfully never happened to me, but it did happened and that was back in '92. I imagine it will happen more now.
