How did Rove and Libby think that they would never get caught?
I am sitting here thinking about all of the nasty, rotten, unethical, and illegal things that Rove has done in the past 10 years or so and I have to wonder how this asshole thought that he would never get caught.

Does he really think that he is that much smarter than everyone else that no one would ever be able to figure out what he is up to? Or did he think that no one could touch him because of his connections?

I realize that there are a lot of skeletons in Rove's filthy closet that we may never hear about...but his indictment regarding the outing of Valerie Plame is a start. This fucker deserves everything he has coming to him and more.

1. Hubris.
They got the idea in their heads that they were Masters of the Universe, Kings of the Hill, Lords of the Dark Realm, etc. etc. ad nauseam.

They forgot that America has a Constitution, a system of laws, and (thank the Goddess!) special prosecutors like Patrick Fitzgerald.

2. Three reasons:
{1} They thought John Ashcroft would cover for them.

{2} They didn't think any reporters would ever testify.

{3} They never anticipated Patrick Fitzgerald.

16. Absolutely! Especially that first one
I think they doubted any investigation would make it out of the box because Asssssssssscroft would make it go away. And Rove's behavior is especially due to (2) -- it was only when Viveca Novak said that Matt Cooper was being subpoenaed that he rushed to "correct the record."

21. I know that many DUers
fully anticipated John Ashcroft's singing career to soar like an eagle, after seeing him rock on Michael Moore's F 9-11. On a more serious note, however, he has been dealing with serious health concerns. I do not wish poor health or Ashcroft's singing on anyone.

Vancouver event - An organizer is perplexed by the slack demand for tickets to tonight's event
Wednesday, April 12, 2006
ALLAN BRETTMAN

VANCOUVER -- With only 100 tickets sold in advance, Washington State University Vancouver officials are hoping for a large walk-up audience tonight for a speech by former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft.

Combining advance sales, discount tickets to 100 local high school students and giveaways to WSU students and others in the community, about 500 people are expected in the 1,100-seat auditorium at Skyview High School.

Ashcroft, who served from 2001 to January 2005 in President Bush's administration, is perhaps best known as an architect of the USA Patriot Act.

25. Duh-Daaa! "No one anticipated Patrick Fitzgerald!"
"His chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise.... His two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency.... His *three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to Lady Justice.... His *four*...no... *Amongst* his weapons.... Amongst his weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise.... I'll come in again."

There will be no comfy chair for KKKarl though!!

When you steal the White House, it would leave the impression you can get away with anything.

11. They've gotten away with absolutely everything else they've ever tried.
And I'm including Bush here, too.

They had no reason to think they wouldn't get away with this, too.

Karl Rove has been doing shitty, unAmerican things to people for 25 years and the worst that's ever happened to him is he got labeled and "evil genius".

13. Problem Is... If He Gets It On THIS... Just Think About
all the other stuff that could have amounted to so much MORE!

And, lest we forget... he's NOT GOT YET! IF there is an indictment, how long will it take before ANYTHING REAL happens? Of if anything REAL WILL happen! Kenny Boy Lay is still out there running around ya know?

As to the reason WHY they never thought they would GET GOT??? Have they ever been GOTTEN??

I recall a time when I would fantasize KARMA, and that was BEFORE the last election! Pretty sickening when you think about it, and even more distressing when you think of all the DAMAGE they have done!!

When Will They Ever Learn, when will they eeevvveeerr learn?? The Wing-Nuts I mean.

14. Yes. When you get away with breaking laws as a career...

One gets impervious to the reality of being a criminal, and the penalties for their criminal behavior.

This was NEVER suppossed to get this far! It was by sheer luck that a Republican appointed Fitz.

17. I would rephrase and replace Bush and Cheney for Libby and Karl.
No one on the heirarchy at the level of Libby and Karl get to make a call like the take down of Brewster-Jennings.

Justifying their war on Iraq and making it possible was the reason for WHIG. B and C ran WHIG.

This decision goes to the top and if you investigate Khan of Pakistan with Iran you come up with Cheney. He had the most to gain in bringing down B-J.

Libby and Rove are gofers who also provide tons of input and support. But, they don't call the shots (such as this one).

This isn't just about leaking. It's about bringing down a CIA ongoing investigation of nuke trafficking.

We know that the leak wasn't just a mistake.

But Fitzgerald can only go on the law - so it's now all about laws that were broken during the Grand Jury investigation while looking into the law that was broken by the White House.

It's only UP from here.

20. Nothing's happened to them, really.
So far they're getting away with it.

I have hopes that they will all go to prison, but it's not really more than hopes. I certainly don't think it's a certainty that any of them will go to prison.

22. Ashcroft to his credit
recused himself in the spy leak case, and appointed James Comey as Acting AG who, in turn, appointed Patrick Fitzgerald.

This matter never would have been brought to a Grand Jury and a public airing if Abu Gonzales had been the AG. He's the consigliere, and would say or do anything to cover for the lot. Thank god for small favors.
