What counts as news these days?
Edited on Thu Apr-27-06 09:27 PM by keopeli
Consider the human living in the future who reflects on the history of early 21st Century America. Just as we reflect on the Salem Witch Trials as an American low point, future people may look on our Television Trials as a manipulative destruction of an individual's life to set an example of the cultural restraints expected by the ruling class.

A woman who was drunk at a party of college men claims having sex without consent. In the neutral world that our founders conceived, the case would be tried before being judged. But, today's media actually manipulates justice.

The OJ Simpson trial was a pivotal moment in history, for which the Aruban incident carries the torch of late.

Consider how deprived the souls of Rita, Gretta, and Nancy are. They are willing to totally destroy someone's life using their own egotistical hubris, while compromising the pursuit of justice in the process.

Rather than discuss the merits of untried cases, why don't these actors read scripts aimed to educate our population about the legal system. They could have a whole series of skits, re-enacting past cases. There could even be some real comedy, rather than prickly banter intended to jab and solicit an uncomfortable laugh.

When will we demand these changes? And how do we appeal to the people who watch these shows?

1. don't forget
the CNN producer a few days ago who.....GASP.......asked a question, and was escorted out of the HU photo op by the CIA.

It was big news for a minute, and rightly so, I'm mean the traitor asked a fucking question! :banghead:

2. (What counts as news these days indeed?)
"That which is counted as news these days is gossip--including the most recent French Revolution."
Henry David Thoreau, Walden
(perhaps slightly misquoted, but I think I got it pretty close)
