Cinco de Mayo is next week. Any flack reports? |
|
I work at a non-profit org who has a Cinco de Mayo party every year. A couple of days ago, when the organizers of the party were decorating for the event, a few people made degrading remarks about why we were celebrating a non-American event.
I assume the 'compassionate conservatives' that are a part of the organization did not agree with the protest that have been in the news recently and have decided that no one should ever celebrate a Hispanic 'holiday'.
I do live in southern Arizona where 'illegal' immigration issues confront us daily, but we have celebrated this event for years without any backlash until now.
Has anyone else in other parts of the country seen this kind of backlash because of all the recent protests?

But do these same "backlashers" make degrading remarks about celebrating St. Patrick's Day? Until they do, they can STFU.
Besides, "We don' need no steenkin backlashers!" to celebrate Cinco de Mayo :toast:

2. I had not thought about that! |

Oh no. Things seem to be heating up around here, lots of nasty LTTE's the last week or so. We have a big rally planned for the 1st, the last one was protested.
Celebrating an non-American event huh? Interesting thing to say isn't it?

3. Interesting to say the least. |
|
This Org has been celebrating this event since I've worked there (about 5 years now) without a peep. Now there's a faction that wants to tell us to STFU, it seems.
BTW, we do celebrate ALL American holidays and events.

cinco de mayo is a holiday invented by corona beer brewing co.
it is not the mexican independence day if that is what is supposed to get people up in arms, everybody knows it's just a frat boy and $2 margarita drinkin day
prob. more gringos celebrate it than mexicans ?
since it falls on friday this year i expect it to be a pretty big blow=out frankly

Let's wait until after May 1st. I'm sure I'll hear something by the day after.
