Did Alito sign off on Ollie North's plans to suspend Constitution ?
Edited on Tue Jan-10-06 11:50 PM by EVDebs
""From 1985-1987, Alito served in the Office of Legal Counsel as Deputy Assistant Attorney General where he provided constitutional advice for the Executive Branch"" in the Reagan administration era...

quote taken from the Bush White House's official website
http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/judicialnominees/alit... ,

the question is begging to be answered..."what was your role in the approval of Ollie North's plans to suspend the Constitution, and how would you characterize such an action as 'Constitutional', Mr. Alito ?"

More on Ollie North's plan

"" On July 5, 1987, Chardy reported over the KNT News Wire that
Marine Lt. Col. Oliver North helped draft a plan in 1984 to impose
martial law in the United States in event of an emergency.
According to Chardy, the secret plan called for suspension of the
Constitution, turning control of the government over to the
little-known Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), appointment
of military commanders to run state and local governments, and the
declaration of martial law in the event of such a crisis as nuclear
war, violent and widespread internal dissent or national opposition to
a U.S. military invasion abroad.
North helped draft the plan to impose martial law while serving
as the NSC's laiason to FEMA. Chardy reported that an administration
official said the contingency plan was written as part of an executive
order or legislative package that Reagan would sign and hold within
NSC until such time as a severe crisis arose. "It is not known whether
Reagan signed the plan," Chardy added.
The plan was extraordinary enough to even frighten then-Attorney
General William French Smith into protesting to Robert McFarlane,
North's NSC boss at the time, that FEMA was establishing itself as an
"emergency czar" and "exceeding its proper function as a coordinating
agency for emergency preparedness."
This secret plan to declare martial law in the event of internal
dissent or national opposition to a U.S. military invasion abroad took
on an added dimension as citizens gathered to protest the nation's
intervention in Honduras in March, 1988.""

How on God's green earth could a plan to suspend the Constitution be declared 'constitutional' and did Alito and Co. sign off on this ? Inquiring minds want to know.

1. Damn good question

And worth checking out.

And how deeply -- if at all -- is Alito tied in to approval of he treasonous, drug-and-munitions stained activities of the Iran-Contra scandal?

We do know for a fact that Ollie North gave our Hawk anti-aircraft missiles to Iran.

God forbid that those missiles -- handed over in a Bald Act of Treason -- should ever come into play if BushCo invades Iran in its mad, fear-driven global power-and-booty grab.

This cabal is principally driven by fear. That needs to be acknowledged. All their actions arise out of fear.

They need to spend some time -- a lot of time -- alone on the mountain. They can get past that base shit. But they must will it, and they must try. So far they cling tighter ever tighter to their fears, and then BLUSTER all over the frikking place. Excuse my psychoanalytical rant.

4. I hear Russ Feingold almost asked it today... Who has balls of steel
dare to topple this imposter posing as someone with 'judicial temperment' ? This sock puppet just signs off on whatever the powers that be want him to. No real thought involved in that.

3. Good question.

Letterman started out tonight calling the Congressmen questioning Alito idiots. He showed a clip of Orin Hatch in the most serious of tones asking something like "I will ask you directly and on the record, are you opposed to women and minorities attending college?" He made some stupid faces and posed an equally stupid question of "What do you think about cufflinks?"

But you present a question begging an informative answer.

9. They're treating this like it's a big joke
because they think they have all the votes on this guy. Of course if this was a liberal judge they'd be screaming just like we are this guy.

7. Kicked and rec'd to greatest!
Nothing would surprise me. We all need to remember that Abramoff is implicated here too. He was already thick with them by that time.

<snip>
Abramoff next joined Citizens for America, a Reaganite group that helped Oliver North build support for the Nicaraguan contras and staged an unprecedented meeting of anti-communist rebel leaders in 1985 in Jamba, Angola. His membership ended on a sour note, however, when the group's millionaire founder, Lewis Lehrman, a former New York gubernatorial candidate, concluded that Abramoff had spent his money carelessly.
