Spanish "Star-Spangled Banner?" Lo siento, no quiero... |
|
Just heard it a moment ago. Overproduced and weighed down with vocal acrobatics. Sorry, but I'm not a fan.
And I'm having trouble finding a website where the lyrics are posted, but weren't the lyrics tweaked a little by that British producer? Help me out here, please.
I appreciate the sentiment and admire the performers' spunk, but Nuestro Himno just doesn't do it for me. If it makes you feel better, rendering The Star-Spangled Banner in 4/4 time doesn't do it for me, either - I'm old-fashioned that way. Just sing it with a minimum of embellishment in 3/4 time, and I'll be happy.

The Star Spangled Banner is an ugly song to begin with. This version is ugly in Spanish.

2. I'm not into it either |
|
The first one is messed up enough. Except for Switzerland, how many countries have anthems in more than one language?

It's not necessary.
Think of how much strife there is over the French/English cultural divide in Quebec--they've several times tried to vote to secede!
Do we want to go that way?

3. I'm no musical expert but if they had just changed the |
|
words and stuck to the traditional music, I think I would enjoy the song. I have no problems with the spanish language. It was my first language before I learned English but the song just is not appealing to me.

4. I've never been into the English version of the national anthem. |
|
Most countries have really patriotic national anthems sang to nice music. We actually have other patriotic hymns that are better than the national anthem, so why did we select this particular one?
However, what's wrong with singing it in a different language? It's not like they are chanting "down with the American Satan" is it?

Having a bunch of people proudly sing the anthem in Spanish should be the least of our concerns.
We should be thrilled that anyone still likes us enough, honestly. :-)

The song has to be tweaked a little in translation. Many of our english words have different meaning in Spanish, thus certain words may be silly or offensive or too expressive etc. if they were to do a straight translation.

8. I've always preferred "America the Beautiful" |
|
to the present anthem because it's singable and doesn't refer to WAR. The bar song Key used for his lyric is best bellowed drunk because few people have the voacl equipment to do justice to it.
I really don't give a rip who translates it and how.
I've been known to write alternative lyrics, myself.

12. Maybe we could have a DU contest for a new non-jingoistic, |
|
non-theocratic verse, which evokes the spirit of the Constitution and the Declaration of Indepencence -- that is, reflects the ideals of the nation rather than reflecting the exigencies of a nation under attack.

9. A pretty insipid song in any language. I prefer the "Internationale". |
|
Which does come in almost every language.
