I Figured It Out! Why We're So IMPOTENT!
Just tonight, listening to TV it hit me. We The People are like the rolling stone that gathers no moss! WHY?

There are TOOOOOOO MANY SCANDALS going on at the same time and we barely latch onto ONE and another comes along. Then we run with that one, it falls by the wayside and we have INCOMING! We keep trying to catch the Golden Ring and each time we get close we get DISTRACTED!

WE ARE IMPOTENT! We are taking in more flak that we can throw back. I'm sure there are thousands of us here at DU, not to mention all the other blogs that are constantly researching and searching for new facts about existing scandals, only to look around and stare yet another one in the face. DAYUM, this is HARD WORK!!

I've been noticing that many posts, and very good ones at that, simply get no traction here at DU. I can't even imagine what the Archives look like!! The thought of looking through all those posts is daunting! What are we talking here, a year or two??

This administration has us in GRID-LOCK! Do you suppose THEY know it?? If it was THEIR plan, then HEY, THEY win!! It just can't be that simple though and I guess I'll just keep on keeping on!

Where's KARMA???

1. Karma doesn't exist.
Its just another tool that poor people use to justify not doing anything in the face of high class tyranny.

2. We need a Velcro Congress to make these scandals stick, so
we can view them en masse. But our Congress is greased with too much OIL!

4. Dude, my mom told me about this, regarding nixon.
Back then they had mch LESS info on the crimes of the nixon adminstration, passed through underground newspapers and such...But because of this they were able to latch on to things and beat the drum much longer.

5. Well, This MOM Was Around Back Then...
Somebody goofed and let it slip! There were TAPES!!

What is going on today PALES in comparison! I kept a HUGE art notebook of daily newspaper clippings of the WATERGATE Hearings because it was ON TV! That was ALL that was on TV! That was ALL that was in the newspapers! THERE WERE HEARINGS!! THERE WERE INVESTIGATIONS! It was almost the only game in town! It was hard to IGNORE!

Let me digress, there WAS Viet Nam, but we were MARCHING by then, and we had Abbe Hoffman and Bob Dylan and Joan Baez and Arlo Guthrie and it went on for a very long time. Woodward & Bernstein were on Nixon like white on rice! I'm leaving far too many activists out of the picture here, but if you were there YOU already know all about it! I MISS those days! I BELIEVED we could make a change! Funny thing about YOUTH!

I can't believe I'm gonna say what I'm gonna say, but... I'd DO Nixon again if I knew we could NAIL THESE BASTARDS!! Yes, we had our underground back then and we got information circulated and perhaps there is still stuff we never got out, but THIS TODAY... doesn't even come close.

I'm a Boomer and as strange as it may sound, Leave It To Beaver was pretty much what it was like! Girls smoking cigarettes in school was "waaaaay bad!" I lived in Texas during my high school years and never HEARD of MJ! Texas was always behind the times back then, maybe it still is.

But just as I graduated from high school we kind of had this weird reaction... THE GOVERNMENT LIED TO US! My friends died in Viet Nam because they got DRAFTED! It was a time for a REVOLUTION and we made a DIFFERENCE!

I'm still marching and hollering but my voice is soooooooo much smaller now!

8. You have a goodly part of the Why figured out, now take it a step further.
Sure there are thousands of scandals, but what will the average Archie Bunker think about all of them?

Rush Limbaugh, pleads not guilty, and in 18 months it all goes away once and for all. Gee, what are the chances that this will maintain traction? I would be willing to bet that Rush is sitting back right now, reading this site, laughing with his rich and powerful friends, pointing at our distress, and lighting a cigar with a $100 bill, just to show what $30,000 means to him.

DeLay, wanna bet it fades away pretty much the same?

We scream look at the crooks, and the average citizen, who has the attention span of a gnat, watches the problem fade away, not guilty, out on technicality, and figures we are screaming wolf, or the sky is falling or whatever.

Then there is the response of our elected officials. When the Domestic Wiretapping came out, not one Elected Democrat demanded that Bush shut the damned thing down. Not one, what did we do? We demanded the chance to make the program legal, so Bush could keep doing it. That is apparently the Beltway Opposition plan, to enable Bush, while talking up how wrong it is. Don't actually DO anything, just talk about it.

How do you think the average dolt responds when these scandals break? Most ho hum them, ignoring it, because the flood of them have managed to desensitize the populace. Now, when it finally shakes out, Rush is Not Guilty, DeLay is out but do you think that makes him more or less dangerous? Now he will set up some Swift Boat site for the Repugnik Red Meat brigades, putting fresh blood into the Right Wing Conspiracy.

The Right Wing Conspiracy, less than two hours after news of the CIA Agent being fired was released, all the Repugnik Right Wing loons had her total resume, links to every news item, and a huge conspiratorial scenario which had her husband supporting/paying Joe Wilson. Less than 120 minutes to completely research read, compile, and prepare the report, and then publish it on the web? I don't think so, no one is that fast, no one. Even a speed reader would take time to compile, toss out duplicates, and then to "connect the dots" on everyone involved?

We are doomed, we will lose in November, because we aren't doing our jobs, as Democrats. We aren't telling the people that by Voting Democrat they will be pushing the envelope on individual liberty, freedom, and corporate responsibility. What do we promise? A smarter war on terror, great, smarter smart bombs. How smart does the bomb that slaughters the innocents need to be? We will lose in 2008, they are pushing Hillary on us with all their might, knowing they will have nearly 20 years of dirt sitting in filing cabinets all over Washington. Unlike us, they drop the scandals slowly, a drop at a time, instead of a flood, one after another, each one calculated. As soon as we get a hint of a scandal, we stop looking, and run to the Press with the assumption that this one, this one will be the one that turns the tide. We rush to the Press like a teenager with his first premature ejaculation acting like we have finally found the key to the orgasm. That is the impression that most people have, and here is the bad part, they are upset with Bush, but are upset with him for different reasons.

They don't want him out, they want him to slap the crap out of the scandal mongers, and the "Left Wing Media" (I know, they are so full of shit but this is what they think) and all they get from us is "Bush is a crook".

If Bush listens to Rove, and we can hope he won't, he will deploy the National Guard to the Boarder, to catch and return the Undocumented Workers to Mexico, at machine gun point of course, to toss the red meat to the rabid bigots before the election.

10. WELCOME To DU... An Addiction In It's Own Right!
I AGREE with everything you just said. It IS true... the dolts and ALL!

But some of the dolts and dimwits ONLY get their news from tiny snippets because of busy busy lives that don't leave much time for searching for the FACTS! Single parent families, both parents working and taking care of kids, many reasons. But I still hold them somewhat accountable. They could do better. But mostly I blame what has happened to THE FOURTH ESTATE!

If THEY actually had enough balls to earn the money they receive, do some investigative reporting and PUSH and I mean PUSH to get it reported, it might make some difference. Still, it's hard to keep ON TOP of ALL THIS CRAP!! They also ARE covering their asses to keep a job. It might not be as easy as it used to be. But damn, they don't have push SHIT all the time! I will say that I have seen some fluttering of long dormant wings lately, but so much damage has already been done.

If there's one statement that I've heard more than any other in the past 4 or 5 years it's "I've NEVER seen anything like this before!" This coming form all age groups, many who have seen much more than I. Just hearing it over and over is FULL OF FEAR!

Thanks for adding your comments because you are correct. I try VERY VERY hard to keep political events front and center with my children and grand children! I want THEM to stay informed even if they don't take the time to LOOK for it. They KNOW how I am!

11. Great post. Aren't you both talking about the same thing?
Cognitive dissonance. As you point out, it's working for lazy/scared Democrats too.

I don't agree that people are all dumb-- altho they are stupified (deer in headlights) by the Doublethink.

Where are you going with that? What "step further" do you suggest?

:hi:

12. Me? I Don't Have That Magic Thing... I Just Know It's
extremely hard to keep up with, much less FIGHT it. Yes, we are both talking about the same thing, and I do agree that there are many like us who DO want to DO SOMETHING!

I'm just saying, what WE ARE doing isn't working. We keep playing the same game. What OTHER game can we play?? The scandals keep us busy. We are basically left alone to do most of the heavy lifting, as in getting the message out, but we are totally at a loss when it comes to holding anyone's feet to the fire.

Myself, I've gone to so many meetings, written so many letters, called so many congressmen, signed petitions and letters up the Wazoo and here I sit blogging!

Personally I want some "action," even IF it gets bad press. The march last September didn't seem to get much response, some say the message was garbled, too many fingers in the pie or whatever. But I will say at least I was DOING something. We have immigrants who make more hay as illegals than we do as citizens! Recently I've tried to get more involved by going to local meetings, checking out what they have to say, but for the most part it's still just TALK! We talk and someone suggests ANOTHER meeting with this or that guest who is giving a talk and I leave thinking I need to find some ACTION! So who's the crazy one? I do wonder if "the corrupt ones" think as long as they keep it fuzzed up, they can ALWAYS win.

I CAN'T get through to MY representatives... Cruella, herself, Mel Martinez and of course Bill Nelson. Oh and of course, Jebby is still around! I feel like the white seed in a watermelon most of the time.

All I know to do is.... Hit The Streets! We have done some of it here, but HERE doesn't get covered! It needs to be big. Geeeez, I'd even settle for a partner to come along with me so we could knock on doors together. One is a very lonely number!

But as long as the scandals pile up and there's no action, it's pretty much Ho Hum, another one!

He's moderating a forum tomorrow in Sacramento, calling for Impeachment. Several states are drafting legislation to Impeach.

Maybe I'll just keep calling for ACTION... Let's get organized, let's do something positive and BIG!!

We all need to get FOCUSED as was just posted! Time is getting short and gerrymandering is a factor that needs attention!

14. Yes, that's exactly it
This administration has learned an entirely new method for dealing with scandals. When a scandal comes along, THEY REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER SCANDAL. In that way, there has to be a new investigation before the old investigation can really make any headway into the public consciousness. It's scandal-shock.

18. Gee, I Think This Was My Premise For My Post
Scandal Shock, Scandal Fatigue??

As for Impeachment, we go back to ACTION! I can't get no SATISFACTION! But Cheney needs to go with him! California is not only completely across the country from me, distance is only the first hurdle to jump! I live in Cruella Country, even IF she may turn out to be a loser, the people who cast votes for her are still here.

Can't tell you how much FUN some of these old Super Rich coots are! BECAUSE of the preconceived notion that THEIR money makes them just that much better, then it also follows that what THEY say is absolute truth, as they see it! Dismissive is a word that comes to mind. I'm sure we've all encountered it in the past.

Now, for my really really stupid question. Who's Mally?

15. We need to FOCUS
If everyone joined Neil Young's call for action and focused on just this...

Let's Impeach the President for Lying
Let's Impeach the President for Spying

They seem to not care how stupid Bush looks, or about the little scandals here and there...as long as we don't throw his ass out of office and send him to the ICC. So of course that is exactly what needs to be done. Removing Bush from office is the fastest way to stop the war in Iran, the continuing attack on the Iraqi people, the assault on the earth. Holding him accountable is the strongest way to tell the other greedy bastard fascists they better find another way to make money.

19. Ever watch a Peewee soccer game?
the kids don't play positions, they just chase after the ball in a huge cluster. Wherever the ball gets kicked, the cluster follows. it's really cute, but not the most effective way to play soccer.
