Poll question: How Long Will Tony Snow last as Press Secretary?
Edited on Sat Apr-29-06 02:34 PM by Humor_In_Cuneiform
One of his choice comments on his radio show, from Amy Goodman's Democracy Now:

"...Last week, Snow said on his radio program, "People like Jesse Jackson who have committed themselves to a view that blacks are constantly victims, have succeeded in creating in the United States the most dangerous thing that we've encountered in our lifetime; which is, an underclass that doesn't seem to be going anywhere."..."

That is only the tip of the iceberg of vitriole spewed forth by the incoming press secretary.

Given this on the record history of his past statements, how long will he last in the job?

Please explain.

In all fairness, part of Rev. Jackson's response on Democracy Now:

"REV. JESSE JACKSON: You know, I’m reluctant to dignify it, except there is an attempt to make the quest for racial justice illegitimate, an attempt to make gender equality illegitimate, an attempt to make a call to peace unpatriotic. That's a kind of a consistent rightwing line. The fact is that people of color were locked out of opportunity by law and must be protected by law. And now this administration, that law is not being enforced..."

1. I'm thinking the DC press corps among others will be really ticked
and the ensuing row over it will not be welcome.

Could be wishful thinking, I guess.

2. One year to eighteen months
I voted the last choice. That's how long I think this regime has until it is ousted by guilty votes in the Senate against Bush and Cheney.

3. If he stays through the impeachment, he'll lug the monkey's bags to
Crawford...just like Nixon's factotum did.

He's made his bed with this decision. I'm thinking he wants to take a lot of notes, and write a book at the end of it all--in order for the book to succeed, it's gotta be a warts-n-all effort, though--a fluffy, airbrushed piece will not sell.

He just had that brush with cancer, and I think he wants to wade in, do whatever it takes to get as much access to the process as they will allow him to have, and come out of it all with a way to make a huge amount of dough, and then sit back and smell the flowers. If the situation gets totally ugly, he'll be able to make a little additional coin on a speaking tour, but that depends on how honest he is able to be in both his book AND his speeches.

His temper, and political temperament, will be his challenges in achieving this goal. I think he's totally capable of biting the hand that feeds him, and not because of an ideological change of heart, either.

He clearly can't be doing this for purely political reasons. That's like jumping on the deck of the Titanic as it's heading towards Davy Jones' locker. He could very well be motivated by access to power in the short term, and greed in the long view.

4. I don't think he'll be gone anytime soon, but...
...I'd love for him to be gone pronto, just to add to the egg-on-face coefficient of the pseudoadministration.
