War games to begin in Winnipeg on Monday...

Hundreds of reserve soldiers from Canada and the U.S. National Guard are converging in Winnipeg to begin urban war exercises in the city. Simulating the current situation in Afghanistan according the the DOD.
the exercises will take place downtown, and various protests are happening this weekend in conjunction with this.
People are complaining about the lack of information given out on what will be occurring. Obviously, a lot of people here from other countries won't know what the h## is going on and be confused by it all.

About 100 police officers and civilians will be given a role in the
exercise, either as opposing forces or relief organizations.

The military may also recruit drama students from the University of
Manitoba to play the roles of demonstrators or insurgents.

was wounded during the exercise.

"This is different than traditional training when the infantry were facing
open ground in front of them, with soldiers in a different uniform,"
Woiden said. "This is much more complex because we don't know who the
enemy is or where the threats are."

Reserve units have been used in the past to fill out the ranks of the
regular force, but Woiden said the military now wants the militia trained
to higher level of combat readiness.

Not an 'urban warfare' exercise, but 'simulated' chemical/dirty bomb/pandemic thing.

Gary Franchi - Chicago, IL 4-20-06 One of our Loyal Lone Lanterns has just informed us that the National Guard will be doing a training assignment in Chicago. This field exercise will be to simulate a chemical attack, whereby the National Guard will coordinate with local police, fire depts, and hospitals. One of the hospitals participating will be Rush.

1) Exercise starts as a response to a pandemic spreading throughout Chicago. It could be anything from a terrorist attack to bird flu. Nobody knows.

2) As the different groups are responding to this pandemic, there is a dirty bomb attack which releases a chemical agent.

3) If all of that is not enough, the dirty bomb collapses a building.
