I wish the walkout on Monday would protest the Mexican govt |

thats what I REALLY wish for, thats where the biggest problem herein lies. I'm Hispanic and American. I empathize with the immigrants plight but I think this protest should also bring to light the lack of EDUCATION and lack of RESOURCES in Mexico (and other Latin countries) thus forcing so many to leave their homelands looking for work.
Bring this issue to the forefront, I say!
We here in the US should be making noise about the INJUSTICE that is happening right next door to us instead of hating on the immigrants who are looking for a better way of life.
edit for a few corrections...

3. More than stealing from their people... |
|
They help to foster an economic environment that is so bad that people must emigrate north to feed their families. Then after going to the US to find work, they must send money back home to support their families. Money coming from illegal immigrants in the US is a major part of the Mexican GDP.

but the upper economic class holds a disproportionate share of the wealth and influence (even by our standards).

7. The problem can be equally shared between the two countries |
|
Mexico has allowed its wealth to be controlled by something like 12 families. If ever a country needed a socialist revolution, it's Mexico.
Now the US is following the pattern, concentrating the bulk of its wealth into few hands and away from the people. The government is enabling the rich and the corporate to get away with depressing wages over the past 3 decades, to the point that the wage floor won't support a single person living alone. That looks like a lot of money to a Mexican who knows what dollars can buy in pesos. They don't realize how screwed they are until they get here and realize what things cost HERE.
The problem isn't the Mexicans, nor is it the working folks who know they're driving wages lower but can't quite figure out why. The problem is cheap labor conservatives, and they're in both parties.
We need to raise the minimum wage and enforce labor laws. That will make illegal labor look much less attractive, especially if we start to enforce that $100,000 penalty against cheapass employers caught recruiting and hiring them.
The Mexicans, denied easy work in the US, will have to work on their own country.

but someone needs to start holding the Mexican government accountable and it ain't gonna be Bush, he's too good a friend to Fox.
all I'm sayin is I just don't understand why the protestors are not protesting their fucking government and pointing the blame squarely on thier shoulders!!
Their protest signs should read: THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT IS THE REASON WE ARE HERE!! Help us get rid of these crooks and better our land, create jobs, and education system.
Many Americans get angry cause immigrants don't speak English, how can they speak English when they probably can't even read their own language. UNEDUCATED people are what drives wages down.
