Does anyone remember.... (re: beginning Iraq War II)
...when Baghdad was first taken, there was a city denizen who actually took us at our word and tried to establish a number of committee meetings with both the military and other Baghdadians to work on getting the electric, phone, water, other utilities back up and running &etc. This poor guy was shut down muy pronto.

Does anyone remember who he was? What happened to him? Sadly my laptop I was using ran into a serious accident and all my saved files were lost. With the little info I remember about him, searches are useless.

I've often wondered about this poor, trusting, well-meaning guy over the past years... I'm so afraid they encapsulated or disappeared him into Abu Ghraib or other such satellite, and if so wonder if he's even out, yet.
Or still alive.

The sins we do by two and two,
we pay for one by one
...and these aren't the kind that Jesus can, more rightly cares to forgive (being temporal, not against Him).

1. No, but I had been thinking
about a story that was aired about an Iraqi father naming his newborn "george bush" or something along those lines. I wonder if this guy has renamed his kid yet?

4. No, I don't remember this. I wish I could help. I know how you feel.
So many people have been hurt by this junta, in so many ways, and every once in a while, one of the thousands and thousands of hurts strikes you particularly, and gets to you. And, for me, too, it is often stories like this, of good and trusting people--believe who still believe in a good world--trying to do what is right in the midst of some horror. I often think of the US military lawyers who fought so hard against torture, and to uphold the ideals of the Uniform Code of Military Justice and the Geneva Conventions, and what they must have gone through at the hands of Bush, Gonzales and Rumsfeld. Or Sgt. Mejia, who went to jail rather than return to Iraq, because he had seen too much horror and injustice. Or Capt. Yee, the Guantanamo Bay chaplain, who is still under a gag order, but who likely was working for more humane treatment of prisoners--and got falsely charged with treason and then smeared in front of his family with pornography charges. Or CA Sec of State Kevin Shelley--likely one of the few honest election officials in the US--who got falsely charged with corruption, because he had sued Diebold and decertified the worst of their election theft machines prior to the 2004 election. Or all the boatmen, and search and rescue people, and firefighters, and others, all over the country, and the world--and including the captain of a US battleship off New Orleans--all of whom offered immediate help to the people of New Orleans and the Gulf states, who were turned back, or blockaded, or prevented in some other way, from helping.

I just hate this PURPOSE of the Bush junta--to prove that the world is a violent and ugly place, where only the rich and the well armed can survive, when in fact the world and its people are constantly demonstrating that that is NOT the case--that people are good and generous, and idealistic, and peace loving, and justice loving, and WANT to help others, and know well how to implement that help in practical ways, and can do so, if they are not deliberately blockaded and disregarded. It's as if the Bush junta is trying to KILL the good in people, to make their horrible vision of the world be true.

I hope you find the helper you read about. I hope he is well. And I hope the goodness and the light are still with him.
