My hometown's ignorance (concerning Flight 93 movie)
In central Pennsylvania, Republicans outnumber Democrats probably 8:1. I constantly have to undergo ridicule just because I am open about my feelings that Bush is an idiot, we shouldn't be in Iraq, etc. However, most of the time I can pose a decent argument and for the most part I either get along with my conservative brethren, or we just lay off politics altogether. But this time, I feel the need to give out an award. CONGRATULATIONS WILLIAMSPORT, PENNSYLVANIA! YOU OFFICIALLY HAVE NO GODDAMN IDEA WHAT GOES ON IN THE WORLD!!!!!

Allow me to explain. On the front page of the Williamsport Sun-Gazette is a story about the new movie Flight 93 which chronicles the last hours on board the plane that crashed in Shankesville, PA, about 3.5 hours to the southwest of Williamsport. I haven't seen the movie, and I do not plan on it. I don't need a movie to remind me what happened on September 11. I can see it when I close my eyes and think.

Now, my problem with the story is simple. The paper interviewed several people leaving the first showing of the movie yesterday at around 1pm. Some of the things people said include "Every American adult should see it. For all those who think we shouldn't be at war, it's a must-see," and "That's why we are at war. It's not weapons of mass destruction. It's September 11th."

Kinda makes you want to strangle a puppy right? Do these people live under a damn rock? These people still live in a world where the hunt for Osama bin Laden and the War in Iraq are somehow connected. I will give anyone $1 million if they can find a link between the two. Considering the CIA is having a hard time linking them, good luck. I particularly enjoy the line saying we are not at war because of weapons of mass destruction. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Wasn't that Bush's chief reason for going to Iraq? Yeah, thought so.

I understood the war on terror. It made sense. They attacked us. We attack them. We win. However, if Iraq had nothing to do with it, why the hell did we attack them? Could it have been we were misled by the thought that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction? Maybe. I love how the people I live around are so uninformed that not only do they have the wrong reason for going to war, but they're not even talking about the same war.

Also, I was actually insulted by the woman who said everyone should see this movie who is anti-war. I am insulted by the fact that people think I and liberal folk like me would change our minds about the war because of a 90 minute movie. Humans are fickle, sure. But that's just plain insulting. If you are so stupid that your political ideas can be influenced by a movie, I've got a friend named Michael Moore I think you should meet.

The great George Carlin once said (paraphrase) "Pennsylvania is odd. It has Philadelphia in the east, Pittsburgh in the west, and Alabama right in the middle." Oh how right he was. (No offense to Alabama :))

3. I haven't seen the movie yet, but
I'm going to see it knowing that it's b.s. so I can tell the idiot repukes I have to work with
that it's b.s.
I feel your pain...in Asheville, NC, there are some true Americans living here, but most
of the people are stupid in-breeds that think King George is a god. Ignorance is bliss in
Asheville, NC and this is a very blissful place to live.
But keep the faith knowing that there are other people like you and me carrying the torch
of freedom...I believe we will prevail, and I believe there are a lot more people in this country
who are waking up to join us.
Hang in there jdelullo and thanks for posting.

4. Don't worry, nowhere beats Georgia
I'm pretty sure outside of Atlanta Athens and Savannah my state could start a fascist party and win seats in Congress.

5. What's that line from "Cool Hand Luke"?
"What we've got here is... a failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach."

Then again, it's not communication that's the problem, it's critical thinking...

"What we've got here is... a failure to cogitate. Some men you just can't teach."

7. I Like You Didn't Want To Go See This Movie And Something You Said In ....
your post struck me and maybe made me understand something.

You said: "I am insulted by the fact that people think I and liberal folk like me would change our minds about the war because of a 90 minute movie."

I now understand how the Repugs felt when we were pushing them to see Farenheit 911. I heard many of them say - 'you think a 90 minute movie would make me change my mind about the war'.

I'm a MIHOP person. So don't flame me. It's just that your comment above struck a chord.

I like to think of myself as open minded. I was upset by those friends of mine that wouldn't even look at the F911 DVD I purchased for them. I told them at least take in the movie and then make up your mind. They didn't even want to that.

Now I'm thinking that I should go see this 93 movie and be open minded about it. I don't want to be as pig-headed as the Repugs were about F911.

8. I think you missed the point.
.. and the original post was about the neocons trying to use 9/11 as a justification to attack Iraq. The point was that there is zero connection between 9/11 and Iraq.. I understand what you're trying to say, but you miss the basic mistake in the whole thought process regarding the push to see the movie. It's not about the Iraq war, it's about a group of terrorists from Saudi Arabia who hijack a plane. What would be the point of anti-war people seeing that movie? I don't think anyone here would have any issue of Bush actually went AFTER THE PEOPLE WHO DID 9/11. The point of conservatives seeing F9/11 was because it was about 9/11 and how it's being manipulated and how it was allowed to happen through incompetence and cronyism.
