9. At Least!
10 city blocks were filled....

Anti-war activists march down Broadway, to protest the war in Iraq, with thousands of supporters in New York April 29, 2006. The marchers demanded an immediate withdrawal of troops, the same day news organizations noted April as being the most deadly month for U.S. troops in Iraq, with at least 69 killed. There are a lot of great photos here...

Tens of Thousands in NYC Protest War

NEW YORK - Tens of thousands of protesters marched Saturday through lower Manhattan to demand an immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, just hours after this month's death toll reached 70.

Cindy Sheehan, a vociferous critic of the war whose soldier son also died in Iraq, joined in the march, as did actress Susan Sarandon and the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

"End this war, bring the troops home," read one sign lifted by marchers on the sunny afternoon, three years after the war in Iraq began. The mother of a Marine killed two years ago in Iraq held a picture of her son, born in 1984 and killed 20 years later.

14. Well hopefully it will hit the
Sunday papers, at least I think more people would be apt to see it there, then those who happened to watch news on Saturday night. Has CNN or Headline news reported on it ?

17. It was huge.
I couldn't tell how many. I was pretty far back from the front, but when I was at Grand Street, I could see people solidly packed all the way back to Grace Church. I couldn't see beyond that.

I didn't have a camera today, so didn't take pictures.

29. I suppose that's an improvement over the past.
If every news channel, including Fox, showed it, we are finally being acknowledged. Dissent exists. Perhaps dissenters will no longer be made to falsely believe they are the minority.

Thanks for reporting on the news. :hi:

26. And not worth boycotting over, either, it seems.
Phucked up priorities. Well over 100,000 innocent Iraqis killed, 2,400 US military killed, about 10,000 with life-long injuries ... but we get people boycotting to ignore the illegal behavior of millions. Just what we need ... more death in war and lower pay for the least paid workers. Phucking insane.

11. This is called propaganda by omission
Edited on Sat Apr-29-06 05:50 PM by Selatius
This is the reason why it appears there is no strong anti-war movement in America. The movement exists. It just doesn't exist according to the corporate news media, and the corporate news media is what most Joe Americans watch and drink without question.

The only consolation is that the blogosphere is starting to undermine corporate control.

13. Conversely they use the immigration protests to
tear the country apart further. Makes me wonder where their interests lie. We're all Americans, right? I wonder sometimes.
Propaganda by omission: I like that phrase.

19. Give this time - we delivered a mainline message
There's a news cycle - the national bureaus haven't yet absorbed the local coverage. This was a monumental showing and police report no arrests. That's gotta scare those who've used fear to govern.

My footsies ache for a reason ... and one of us attended on crutches.

22. No CBS or NBC national news tonight in metro Detroit
The local NBC shifted its newscast to 6:30. It gets to keep all the ad money.

The CBS affiliate sold the whole 30 minutes to an infomercial.

God bless the CBC.

23. They rarely give any attention to these demonstrations
When they do, they under-report the turnout and/or focus on the fringe groups that scuffle with police or burn US flags.

Fair and balanced, they are. :puke:

25. Awesome! March down Broadway!
I don't know how to estimate crowd numbers but there were a lot of people here today. When we got down toward Canal St. and you could look back over the march route "nothin but people as far as the eye can see"! I'd post some pictures but I haven't figured out how to get them in my post yet. hint hint
