MUST SEE - Sen. George Allen's HS Yearbook Photo
Edited on Sat Apr-29-06 07:13 PM by LibDemAlways
I started a post about this yesterday, but it died an untimely death. Since this guy is a top contender for the GOP 2008 Pres. nomination, this is something everyone should be aware of. This photo was taken in 1969 - a full two years before Allen moved to Virginia. He was a student at Palos Verdes High School, a wealthy California suburb, and had no ties whatever to the South. The New Republic article linked below is a must read. Allen's office has admitted that that is,indeed, a Confederate flag pin.

5. Unfortunately, no.
That is the photo as it appears in the yearbook. Allen and a friend of his were both wearing those pins. The New Republic article details his pathetic attempt to explain it.

3. So what is that on his lapel?
Edited on Sat Apr-29-06 07:14 PM by Clark2008
I still can't tell. I hardly think it's a Swastika. It looks more like a 4H emblem or something.

Still, the guy ain't from the South. Just another transplant with a phoney accent drummed up to make the sheeple vote for "one of them."

PS - Hate really makes one ugly over time, doesn't it? He looks very attractive in this picture and doesn't look a THING like he does today. I realize time ages folks, but I wouldn't even peg him as the same person!

a Confederate flag pin, and his office has confirmed it.

7. I'm curious, but is it possible that being a student at....
...STONEWALL JACKSON High School might have entitled him to wear some kind of lapel insignia to recognize athletes at the school?

Is there any way to find any other pictures of students that year at that particular high school? It might be instructive to find out why the pin was worn.

10. I'm sorry, but what are you referring to?
He was a student at Palos Verdes High School, in California,
and that is his yearbook photo from there.

Where is your "STONEWALL JACKSON High School" comment coming from?

11. I apologize....I misread the caption on the photo. My question....
...still stands...what was the meaning of the caption itself? Was it some sort of honorary title involving sports? I still don't get the indignation here.

12. OH, I see. That caption is not from the yearbook itself...
...it is from a story ABOUT the photo and pin.
Perhaps the captioner should have put the "Stonewall Jackson" in quotes,
to make it clear that it was meant as a jab at the racist Sen Allen.

The only reason a student at Palos Verdes High School in 1969
would be wearing a pin like that was by personal choice;
it has NOTHING to do with any school programs, titles, nicknames or traditions.

17. Or, being very familiar with the year 1969
To show support for the Segregationist like George Wallace.
No one will admit to it now but there were a number of young white men that did that.

admits his participation in the graffiti incident, but denies it was racial. It was.

22. I fail to see the problem
OK, so it's a rebel flag.

I'm pretty sure that the Karl Rove fiends will find something on Hillary to distract and take away from this.

27. Maybe you can explain.
why a California high school student is wearing a confederate flag on his lapel.

I'm sure you would be shocked to think that this may indicate racist beliefs !

Karl Rove will be in jail or pardoned by another criminal when this becomes important.

Will Hillary be in jail too??

29. who cares
The Confederate flag means different things to different people. Certainly you don't think some kid wearing a pin is a definition of his views do you? As far as I've seen on Allens policies, none of them seem to indicate favortism for any one race.

25. Senator Stupid
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/12531720/

SEN. GEORGE ALLEN ®, VIRGINIA: Good evening. Good to be with you, David.

DAVID GREGORY: Thank you. Let me ask you about Karl Rove first. Are you comfortable at this point that he will not be a liability for this White House, particularly since his job one now this year will be helping Republicans like yourself get reelected?

ALLEN: Oh, Karl Rove has a proven track record of success for this president as well as for other candidates, and so I think he‘s going to be focused on politics and campaigns and he‘s been awfully good at it and he has a great track record of winning.

GREGORY: Senator, it‘s a diplomatic response, but there is a certain context here and that is that he‘s appearing before the grand jury for the fifth time. Is this not a distraction for Republicans and for the White House particularly?

ALLEN: Well, I have my own advisers. Dick Wadhams is my campaign manager he ran John Thune‘s campaign against Tom Daschle in 2004 and he ran Wayne Allard‘s campaign. Everyone has their own campaign people on their own particular race.

And so Karl Rove is somebody who I‘ve worked with in the past when I was chairman of the Republican Campaign Committee, and I really do admire his knowledge and I think the president also has a great deal of confidence invested in him.

GREGORY: You don‘t think he‘s compromised by this investigation at all?

ALLEN: Oh, as I was just listening to the report there — because I‘ve been busy doing other things, I don‘t get to watch grand jury investigations, and of course they‘re closed — and so that report said that Karl Rove was not the target, so he was in there for some testimony. Oh, I‘m sure it‘s something that is distracting in that he has to prepare for it, but it doesn‘t have any impact on my particular reelection campaign.

Somebody tell him when to breath.

28. The article mentioned that the shad planking was
open only to whites. It failed to mention that it was open only to males.
The year George Allen ran for Governor was the first year women were allowed at the Shad Planking. His opponent was a woman.
