"Bush Lampoons Self at Press Corp Dinner"

WASHINGTON Apr 29, 2006 (AP)— It was twice the fun for members of the White House Correspondents' Association and guests Saturday night when President Bush invited a look-alike, sound-alike sidekick to poke fun at himself and fellow politicians.

"Ladies and gentleman, I feel chipper tonight. I survived the White House shakeup," the president said.

But impersonator Steve Bridges, stole many of the best lines, referring to Vice President Dick Cheney and his hunting accident on a couple of occasions.

-snip-

The featured entertainer was Stephen Colbert, whose Comedy Central show "The Colbert Report" often lampoons the Washington establishment.

And that was ALL they said about Colbert...

1. Still the only story mentioning Colbert and the dinner on Google News
I think the media is terrified of this story, not sure how to report it, and maybe hoping to get away with ignoring what Colbert said.

3. Look at it this way...
...the Gettysburg Address didn't get much of a reaction the first time it was delivered, either.

Last year that stupid Pickles horse masturbating joke was repeated more times than my stomach can bear to remember -- she was hailed as a great entertainer who could be a stand up comedian.

Well, we "It Getters" were treated to one of the best, and bravest, comedy performances we will ever experience.

5. AP finally added two paragraphs quoting Colbert
according to this version at Forbes:

http://www.forbes.com/technology/feeds/ap/2006/04/30/ap2708724.html

"I believe that the government that governs best is a government that governs least, and by these standards we have set up a fabulous government in Iraq," Colbert said in a typical zinger.

He also paid mock tribute to Bush as a man who "believes Wednesday what he believed Monday, despite what happened Tuesday."
