And Smith was worried about the row over "truthiness"..... |

Did you catch that joke he made while introducing Colbert. Said he was afraid for his job for signing Stephen and not taking that whole "truthiness" thing into account. He called his boss to make sure he didn't screw up.
Hummmm....I wonder what his thoughts were "after" 'ol Stevie was finished ?

1. It appeared that Ann was giving him what for after it was over |
|
They lingered on the stage and she didn't look too happy at all.

2. Please enlighten me on 'Smith' and Ann (Compton)? Did they |
|
hire Colbert w/o knowing who he was, and how could they not know? I freakin' know!

4. Jay Smith, President on the AP board of directors |
|
Yes, he signed Colbert for the gig. Not sure which Ann was talking to him afterwords, I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard I had to take off my glasses.
My guess, like so many others, is they truly don't get that what Colbert does is satirize right-wing blow-hard talking heads.

Actually, I am not sure it was Smith after I watched it a second time. But, there was someone giving her an earful right next to the podium right after it ended. Her body language was very telling.

6. That truly makes it all the richer. The supposed "journalists" |
|
or "correspondents" didn't get him? Perhaps they did and felt Colbert would be a breath of fresh air, as he was. Maybe it was calculated; I can only hope, but he was terrific! I was laughing my ass off as well!

damn. I am SOOO glad we did this. We needed nothing less than this kick in the butt. Here we are slapping ourselves on the shoulder while the house is burning down. And for once, we have an chance to do two things one - to show case a manipulative president who molds the media. They practiced that four times to get it right. two - the real story. Every time we sat on an issue because of "national security" just came home to roost. or roast. or reality. NOTHING the WH says can be believed anymore. And Tony Snow caught that. And he just realized that he has to get his resume primped and primed and ready to go, 'cause he will not deal with this shit anymore. And he hasn't even started.

7. I doubt he thought that, but even if he did, it just highlights his, and.. |
|
..the media's cowardice/compliance in the face of despotism
he stuck me as a pompous, phony twit who got more than he bargained for. you KNOW if he'd seen the script he'd NEVER have approved it.
the audience's lack of receptivity is another thing here. is that guy so out of touch with his compatriots that he'd serve them up such a disagreeable entree?
and he works for the AP, which controls most of the news that is reported to newspapers and radio outlets. they're noteworthy in their fealty to the junta
so I doubt he had the motives to which you ascribe him
but I could be wrong

I read the AP stories in both local papers (Chicago) and they concentrated more on the actor with whom the president rehearsed for so long last week.
