But instead of choosing me to attack personally, be sure and post this in ALL the Colbert threads.

Just to be "Fair And Balanced."

9. Why are you spamming every thread........
if you don't want to read "Colbert" threads than just ignore them. Why be a complete jerk and spam every thread just because you don't like Stephan Colbert? I just don't understand the logic here, maybe you could explain it to me. Posting on every thread you hate just to let us all know you hate them. :eyes: Take a nap. :eyes:

I didn't find it funny at all. I don't think it was intended to be funny. It looked to me like an all-out personal 'tribute' to a failed, unelected moron of a President.

15. If by 'tribute', you mean
'pointing out just how awful this pResident is', then you are correct.

If on the other hand you don't get Colbert's genius... I'm sure someone can explain.
He was bold, unashamed, and put monkey-boy in a very bad mood.

Good.

That's the point, isn't it? Who cares about whether or not it's funny. It's all true and he is getting away with blasting the president and the press right to their faces without winding up in Gitmo or some other secret prison. What he is doing is tremendously courageous and vitally important. And thank God he has the courage and opportunity to do it. I don't think he'll be getting any more invites to anymore White House Press Corespondent dinners. He is probably too bold in his exercise of free speech. I salute him and am very grateful to him for what he's done for us all.

78. that's my point too. And I think The Daily Show deserves
credit for showing the way. Jon S. was actually the one who confronted "journalists" to their faces first, but SC has definitely blazed the trail even further.

I wonder if Robin Williams had a hand in helping them write SC's lines for this event. He was on The Daily Show recently and I have a feeling that a lot of people brought some ideas to the table.

Central. He is not currently in a role as a journalist and should not be held to journalists' standards (same with Jon Stewart). That's what makes it all the more remarkable that he (and Jon Stewart) are the ones doing the jobs the journalists should be doing.

But sorry to be unclear about that. And thanks for the info on his background--do you recall where you read it? His Wikipedia entry talks about his being involved in Improv when he was at college, and describes a career in comedy and acting. I didn't see anything else there about journalism but Wikipedia isn't perfect as we all know. The closest it comes is that he was on Good Morning America for a short time but it doesn't say in what capacity. It also says he's not French :-).

"The Truly Serious Appear on 'The Colbert Report'":

SORRY, you were right & I stand corrected, although when I found this article again, I cracked up at this part:

"...when George Stephanopoulos visited the program, his host politely inquired if ABC's short-statured chief Washington correspondent needed to sit on a telephone book in order to reach the table..."

LOL!

'The Colbert Nation'
http://www.colbertnation.com/colbertnation/colbert.jhtml

Stephen graduated in the top 47 percent of his class at Dartmouth, where he majored in history and performed with the all-male a cappella group The Sing Dynasty. (Another famous Sing Dynasty alum? Actor Stacy Keach!)

After college, Stephen took a year off to travel around the world. He went everywhere: England, Ireland, Scotland…even Wales. That's when he developed a love of journalism because he kept a journal of his travels. What I wouldn't give to read Stephen's thoughts!

When Stephen returned to the States in 1987, he decided he had a lifelong passion for news, so he took a job as a fact checker at the Richmond Times-Dispatch. He wowed his editor when he single-handedly exposed the largest mail-fraud scam in Virginia state history.

Stephen still doesn't trust the U.S. Postal Service to this day.
(Snail mail is for suckers, anyway!)

Thanks to his new acclaim as a man of the people, Stephen was quickly snapped up by Richmond's WVBX-TV news, where he spent three years as a field reporter. He was voted "Sexiest Local Newscaster of 1989" by Virginia Living magazine and raised almost $600 at a charity bachelor auction.
Best of all, the woman who cast the winning bid is now Mrs. Stephen Colbert! (Lucky lady!)

Before long, Stephen was being courted by another type of suitor: mid-market television stations.
He finally settled on Raleigh, North Carolina's WKJC Channel 5 News, where he worked the state capital beat for seven years.
In that time, North Carolina tourism numbers rose by 9 percent.
Way to go, Stephen!

14. Wow! What courage. Colbert called everyone out. He's the man!!!
What a stinging rebuke and painfully truthful presentation. It really covered all the bases and laid out the treachery of the President and Vice President full on, as well as the complacency of the press and their collusion with the administration on the war. He also nailed that one sided propaganda machine, Fox news and he even hammered the American public for their inaction. Colbert is a hero for this -- that was one the gutsiest exercises of free speech I've ever seen. Bush got up to shake his hand at the end, which surprised me since Colbert just made of fool of him and the press collectively without batting an eye for almost a half hour. Bush is too stupid to realize when he's being called out. I loved the way Colbert laid everything out on the table, and let the chips fall where they may. Astonishing!!! He even blasted the pols for corruption and accelerating global warming. It was a masterpiece and a badly needed breath of fresh air. The people should bestow a medal of honor on him for true patriotism.

For those of you who think stuff like this doesn't matter...

I just watched this (Thanks AGAIN for posting this!!!) with my 14 year old son...he's grown up since 9 with his country being run by these fascists, and people having to 'watch what they say'. He was laughing hysterically, and kept saying "I can't believe he got away with this".

So, for those who think it didn't matter...it matters a LOT...MANY people have rarely seen REAL exercises of free speech since the *'s clamped down...Colbert was amazing...and the Helen Thomas thing at the end had us both on the floor.

Kudos Colbert!!!

I just watched it again. Damn, that ain't gonna get old. Before last night, I thought of Colbert as second fiddle to Jon Stewart, but no more, he is Jon's equal and I think they both come from a motivation that is purer than just getting the laughs, though laughs are good. This administration and this press corps is painful and laughter makes it hurt just a little less.

111. Up there with Mark Twain, Will Rogers, Mort Sahl, IMHO
Stephen really cooked! He chopped, sliced, diced, pureed, ran them ALL through
a food processor, spread it out on the floor so we could see the mess, then
flushed 'em down the drain, where they (bushcorp AND fourth estate) belong.
Cultural/political critic-satirists will be hard-pressed to ever top this performance.
I wonder what hissy-bitchy Christopher Hitchens will have to say...but who cares?

43. Man!
He just busts the HELL out of EVERYONE, doesn't he?

:wow:

I was actually embarrassed for Bush - seriously - and that takes a lot coming from me. I'm not complaining, mind you, but I guess, deep down, I still have respect for the Office of the President despite what this fuckwad has done to it, so it was a bit rattling to hear Colbert's "roast." Still, he was dead-on accurate.

And, fwiw, even though I don't stand for anything Scalia stands for, it was good to see that, in the least, he could laugh at himself, which is more than I can say for Shrub, who sat there looking like he smelled shit on his upper lip.

Thanks for posting this link. I was amazed.

I can't believe he had the guts to take some of the shots he did. The crowd seemed to have a large pile of wood inserted somewhere thru half his act but he did a masterful job of nailing just about everyone in the room with "THE TRUTH". God I love Colbert! (And Helen Thomas)

I think it wil be studied as a textbook case of true satire. He was so believable in his "praise" statements. I am positive Bush was eating those parts up and didn't notice the barbs afterwards. Colbert definitely nailed it!

57. After seeing the movie V, I had a bizarre feeling last night . . .
First of all, thanks for the link to the clip. I can't wait to have my Colbert friends see it. It truly was priceless, and as a true motley fool (original meaning intended) -- in laughter there is truth.

I did get a weird sense of Deja-Vu watching it and remembering the movie V. For those who haven't seen it, there's a part where a comedian lambastes the current regime and eventually gets arrested Nazi style, a la Cabaret.

That wouldn't happen here. . .would it???

Colbert has some gonads! I'm too pissed at the Bush regime to laugh. I'm too angry at our media who have sat back silently and let these idiots take over our country gradually over the last 26 years until it has come to where we are now. I'm too disgruntled and pissed to feel feel much of anything but disgust and cynicism most of the time, but Colbert, you give me hope. Thank you!

Split up into three parts.

http://youtube.com/results?search=colbert&sort=video_date_uploaded

The good thing about Youtube.com is that you can pause until the whole thing is buffered, OR, download each video to your drive using this link for example:

http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php

(It's really just a simple address change to download, but if you're not as savvy, that link is easier.)
