No Colbert on This Week w/ Stephanopoulos -- SHAME HIM NOW!!!
Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 01:07 PM by FULL_METAL_HAT
Pre-script: If you don't want to support this shaming effort, that's fine, but calls to "calm down" are not needed, thanks in advance. This is a discussion of DOING something, not a discussion of what NOT to do. We're all adults here and should understand that our actions can actually mean something. If you don't agree with this effort then please do what your momma taught you: if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anthing at all :)

Can you believe it, this guy was (is?) a Democrat who was with Bill Clinton as de facto Press Secretary AND a leading member of the 1992 Clinton campaign?

Obviously George Stephanopoulos (GS) is bent in some way.

We can expect the rest of the MSM to bury their shameful heads in the sand but here's some very COMPELLING facts about GS you might not know that make his LACK of comment on Colbert's scathing humor, and especially his "Press Conference" video, STICK OUT LIKE A SORE THUMB!

All of these show that he went AGAINST EVERYTHING HE IS to NOT mention COLBERT!
  1. We already know GS is "press" and actually did actually DID press conferences, so Colbert was right up his alley, unlike the rest of the talking heads.

  2. "In December 2005, ABC News officially named him Chief Washington Correspondent" So we KNOW he HAD to be there last night to see all this with his own eyes.

  3. His wife IS A COMEDIENNE!!! Likely she was there with GS last night, so its ridiculous to think Colbert's performance would not be appreciated in their household on a PROFESSIONAL COMEDY level!

  4. GS is a Rhodes Scholar, which is supposed to be for people with, get this, these upstanding qualities: "truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship;" and "moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one's fellow beings"

For GS, a man in the "perfect storm" of being a supporter of Colbert and at least throwing him a bone, it's obvious he had to bend himself into a pretzel to only show the asinine comedy that came before Colbert even had a chance to speak TRUTH TO POWER.

This is a glaring example of the failure of the "media" to act as anything but SUPPRESSORS OF TRUTH.

Email GS, "This Week", and ABC to let them know we see the cowardice!

PLEASE WRITE THEM AND ASK YOUR FRIENDS TO DO SO --
TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO SHAME "THIS WEEK" and REMIND GS that he's held to a higher standard than the rest of the MSM idiots, and that the world his two little girls are growing up in DEPEND ON THE TRUTH BEING SPOKEN OUT!!

Their email is thisweek@abc.com or their response form is at http://abc.go.com/site/contactus.html?cat=Other-News as well if you wanted you can shame them snail-mail style here: ABCNews, 7 WEST 66th Street, New York, NY 10023. Maybe send a picture of your little kids and tell him that you depend on people like him so the world they grow up into will be BETTER not WORSE!

He/they need to be put ON NOTICE!! They're WORSE than the BEARS! If they don't shape up they'll be going on the DEAD TO ME BOARD!!

Please K and or R since you don't need any foil to see this conspiracy, even if it's just between George and himself!

The FACTS of the GS case:
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandra_Wentworth and
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodes_Scholarship and
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Stephanopoulos
...

Stephanopoulos was, along with David Wilhelm and James Carville, a leading member of the 1992 Clinton campaign. ... At the outset of Clinton's presidency, Stephanopoulos served as the de facto press secretary,
...

the host of ABC's Sunday morning news show This Week; he was previously a senior political adviser to the 1992 U.S. presidential campaign of Bill Clinton and later became Clinton's press secretary and communications director.
...

In December 2005, ABC News officially named him Chief Washington Correspondent.
...

offered a Rhodes Scholarship. Though he had been rejected for the scholarship during his senior year at Columbia, Stephanopoulos was successful in his second attempt.

While at Oxford, Stephanopoulos earned a master's degree in theology at Balliol College. He reported spending much of his time trying to root his political leanings in deeper philosophies that he studied while at Oxford.
...
Rhodes Scholar Standards
The requirements for applicants are high. Rhodes' legacy specified <these> standards by which applicants were to be judged:
  1. truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship;
  2. moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one's fellow beings.

...
He is married to actress Alexandra Wentworth, with whom he has two daughters.

Alexandra "Ali" Wentworth (born January 12, 1965) is an American comedienne...

take a pill. You sound silly, to put it lightly. This was a comedic roast, not a world summit. Just because the he didn't cover it the way you wanted or say exactly what you were thinking on his show, doesn't mean he's evil or corrupt. Bottom line he's a liberal, and that entitles him to agree or disagree with fellow liberals and doesn't bind him to a suicide pact with people like you. Wow...stop cannibilizing your own and grow up.

10. Well, just go on with your bad self
I don't really see what your problem is.

This Week considers itself a serious public affairs program. (Yeah, right!) I dont' know why they would invite a comedian on the show and not a "serious" journalist or public official. Yes, even a brilliantly clever satirist like Colbert.

11. so.....did they show the ENTIRE dubya squared fiasco, or not?
according to another poster, they showed the whole thing.

if it's such a "serious public affairs program," why did they choose to show one 'comedic' segment and completely ignore the other one, the one which savaged the junta?

14. I don't know, I don't watch TW anyway
mayhap it's because, like the rest of the country, the staff at TW are still trying to absorb :wtf: SC did last night.

I think it's going to be a few days before people, other than us politics junkies, start openly talking about it.

15. Take A Breather and Relax. And Please, Lower Your Voice. I Wouldn't Have
expected them to cover it. You're acting like we just nuked Iran and he made no mention of it. The overdramatic call to arms above is just a wee bit over the top in my opinion.

18. agree on the shouting, but the point is that one would at least expect
that little dwarf to mention Colbert, and this seems to be what's going to happen with this....how many times do stories that reflect poorly on this regime just disappear down the memory hole?

looks like this is what's going to happen here. especially ironic, as somebody mentioned here already, is the fact that the little twerp features a comedic segment each week, and he completely IGNORED Colbert. I'd love to hear the reasoning behind that decision

sure doesn't make much sense to me

This is the BBC's coverage of the event (link below)....Not even one mention of Colbert at all...and they're very left...

Of course, BBC plays to a world market, that doesn't know Colbert, but the same applies in the U.S. His ratings are probably around...what...1 million viewers an episode...big for cable, but not compared to network television. His name is recognized more around the beltway and in forums like this. But when it comes to America at large, he just that "guy with the glasses that looks familiar". Hell, if most people can't name the VP, do think they'll know Colbert? Of course, living in the echo chamber that we do on these board, we sometimes assume that everyone knows Colbert as well as they know their own family - unfortunately, not true.

And it's not unprecedented...tpyically, comedians, perhaps except Imus, get very little coverage with respect to their WH Dinner jokes. The news is always the President making fun of himself. It's not a conspiracy, it's not unusual.

20. Sunday Funnies (NOT)
This is the content of my email to This Week. I had written this after the show ended today, before I saw this posting on DU. Too serious? Maybe. Maybe not. The press needs to start acting like the press. The Sunday Funnies portion of this show usually includes the best of the week's sarcasm and humor on the political front and usually pulls no punches. This was too unusual to pass up.

Our email:
Until this week, this family has tuned in your show every Sunday as the best of the best among the Sunday political press. Your show has really been “fair and balanced” instead of just using the words (like Fox News). Well, you managed to lose us this week.

How you could show the stupid Bush “double” as your Sunday Funnies and totally avoid Stephen Colbert is major cowardice, joining the majority of the other major news media in covering for this President instead of performing your role in a free press under our Constitution. Sorry to see you “wimping out” like this. We will continue to tune in only to honor the only show that weekly memorializes our soldiers who have died in service to this country. Perhaps you should watch that section yourselves, and then honor them by showing Colbert’s presentation instead of Bush’s.
