My Lord, South Park has lost its way
Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 01:54 PM by dsc
I am watching much of the current season of South Park and it is just terrible. It is literally unbelievable how unfunny it has become. It is sad to see such a great show go so low. What they did to Chef was beyond disgraceful.

1. It's like a trapped rat with rabies.
They are trying to take on all of their detractors. Boring...

3. They made their reputation by being outrageous
They love to poke at the "politically correct" attitude. But like Fonzie, the surfboard, and the shark, eventually it becomes same old, same old. The crappy paper cutout cartoon styling is becoming stale, and the writing isn't keeping up, either.

They had a good run. Unless they can revamp, they'll fade slowly away.

4. Yeah, about as disgraceful as
Isaac Hayes' decision to leave the show solely because it lampooned Scientology.

I saw the latest repeat myself, the one where SMUG envelops the city. Are you sure you don't like the show now simply because it poked fun at environmental elitists, or because it now makes fun of liberals as well as the current admin? Even some elements of the RW like the show and can laugh at themselves. I sure do hope this kind of mock indignation goes away, because we have enough of it with the freeps.

SORRY, NOT BUYING IT.

5. actually that was the only good episode of the five
Chef as a pedeophile was gross, not funny. The episode about Oprah was nasty. The two parter about the Mohammed cartoons had moments but came across as more vidicitive than funny. The smug episode was pretty good over all though.

6. What Happens When You Can't Shock Anymore
I long gave up on this show...I catch it now and then waiting for another Comedy Central show to come on. Stone and Parker's shtick is to be outrageous...and in the beginning they had a lot of ground to cover. It was cute for a while as they tried to tweek every taboo and see how far they could push the censors and "good taste". That ended a couple years ago...now it's just shock to create a reaction; making noise just to get noticed. This isn't cutting edge, this is a cry for attention from a show that lost its edge and appeal several years ago.

8. My perspective...
I've only had cable for a year and a half or so and my previous exposure to South Park came from renting one DVD years ago and very occasionally catching it at someone else's place. Now that I have cable I've watched SP a lot== reruns and the current season== and I am tellin' ya, they are really off their game this season. Now, a bad SP episode is still better than most other crap on TV but something is just wrong this season.

12. Couldn't disagree more.
The Darth Chef episode was brilliant. What a great rip on scientology. The whole season has been as good as anything they've done. I laugh my ass off every week.

13. I think South Park has always been horrible. Very few shows will I
laugh at. IMO, the shows on Adult Swim are way beyond anything South Park can shit out.

14. It used to be 90% entertainment, 10% self-indulgent digs...
Now it has flipped to 10% entertainment, 90% self-indulgent digs...and lately the digs are almost 100% against figures of the popular left.
