Okay...I never go "over there" to look..... well I look if people post links, but I was going to see their reaction to Colbert (I couldn't find it), but couldn't help looking at a thread that was about saving Darfur. Before I opened the link to read the comments, I actually thought that it looked like they were interested in stopping the genocide and I was about to feel good that at least they were decent human being about the people being slaughtered. I was wrong.

There is something unsavory, in the face of genocide, to ask the authors of genocide for their permission before you send peacekeepers.

Could anyone imagine asking permission of the SS before kicking in the doors of the death camps?

I am inclined to say about the UN the same thing I said about the IAEA. Its not their job to stop genocide, its just their job to monitor the process, fill out the paperwork, affect a proper public posture of pained concern and, most of all, keep track of those frequent flyer miles.

What did they do in Rwanda? Nothing. What have they done in Congo, where millions have died? Count the dead, where they dare. And what have they done in the South Sudan, where two million died? Nothing at all. And now, in the Darfur, what now?

Nothing, but thats not the point. The point is that they are monitoring the situation, and will continue monitoring the situation until there is no one left alive to monitor.

How about they cancel a few of the million dollar "parties" this year and use the money for Darfur instead of gourmet feasts and travel expenses.

I'm in favor of putting some of our troops under the command of The United Nations, but I don't want Der Chimpenfuhrer calling the shots.

The last thing Darfur needs is to have our "president" doing to them what we're doing to Iraq.

I support NATO or UN troops going in there.

Let's not send our own troops until President Russ Feingold and Secretary of State Murtha are in charge.

They can twist the biggest humanitarian crisis into having two sides? Why don't they take this moment to say that Bush can handle this better than Clinton handled Rwanda....instead they want to ignore it because people like Clooney (who is using his celebrity to shine spotlight on a horrific situation) want to help. For people who think their so faithful, don't they realize how they are responding to a situation which effects millions..... I would feel like I was booking my ticket to hell if I spoke like that.

That I have heard many words from both political parties about Sudan (lots of words and no action of course), but this should not be a partisan topic. Hell, Bush even applauded the marchers today saying that they are the best the country has to offer (again, nice sentiment, but no action). The point is that they are so angry that a celebrity is trying to help a cause that the immediately get hostile to the celebrity and the cause. It's sick, immature and abusive (you can pretty much tag the majority of their reactions with those sentiments.
