1. could someone please explain to me

how to upload the avatar? I am so clueless. :(

2. right click and save as to your picture file on your computer

then click on options and go to avatars and use the "browse" section..That;s all there is to it

3. Here you go

1) Save it to your hard drive.
2) Open your Options
3) Select Edit Your profile
4) Look for Avatar image a click upload. (navigate to where you saved SC and select it.)
5) past the name of th personal avatar in the field on the right.
6) Click update at the bottom.

You might have to sign out and in again to see the change, I can't remember.

5. Save the picture to your hard drive...

...by right-clicking it and clicking "save picture as." Make a mental note of what file you put it in.

In the DU icon menu (at the top of most DU pages), click "options" and, then, on the left, click "edit your profile." Under "avatar image," click "upload."

In the little window that comes up, click "browse" to find the avatar image that you just saved. Double click the image, then click the circle next to "JPEG image file" and click "upload." After that, you'll see "personal/XXXXXX.jpg" (the Xs will be numbers). Copy that code, close the little window, and then paste the code into the box to the right of where it says "avatar image."

Scroll to the bottom of the page, click on "update," and you're done.

6. Are there any copyright restrictions on those?

Those pictures are nice and sharp, so they'd make great avatars. But the pictures I used are screen caps of broadcast material, so I'm not concerned about copyright issues (and they're from the actual heroic performance, as well ;) ).

10. Copyright, shmopyright, those are screen captures I did a few...

...months ago, so I guess it could be said that I took those pictures?

I'd say they fall under fair-use, as long as you don't do anything malicious with them.

Hey, do you know? When someone uploads an avatar, does it become part of the "available avatars" collection? Or does one of the admins have to add those?

16. An admin has to add avatars to the permanent collection but...

...if you see one you like, you can always ask the poster if it's okay to use theirs. :)
