1. Brownback is scum
Very obviously trying to make a case that since other bad decisions have been overturned ( Plessy)
that it's OK to overturn Roe.

Problem is IMO those cases were about restoring rights. Overturning Roe is about taking away rights.

I recall hearing that they have paid callers from the Republican side, now I believe they pay people to pretend they are Democrats.

69. Alito helped the little guy when lg's atty. was Alito's former clerk.
After Durban (D) of Il did an excellent job in raking Alito over the coals for ruling consistently against the individual, the poor, the consumer; the next R Senator brought up a case where Alito ruled (in the minority, AGAIN) in favor of a Nigerian drug dealer/informer who was fighting deportation. But the R actually flaunted the fact that the drug dealer's attorney was Alito's former law clerk. Typical Republican old boy network.

But didn't Alito just answer a question about gay marriage that might come before the court?

79. Where is the smart Alito?
Edited on Wed Jan-11-06 11:00 AM by kcwayne
After all the pre-hearing hype about what a brilliant and accomplished man Alito is, I have yet to hear him say anything that leads me to believe he is anything other than average. He strikes me as a mediocre thinker. He seems technically competent in some memorization skills, but has an eerie presence and inability to articulate anything that suggests he feels anything other than contempt for people.

While a cheese sandwich looks brilliant to these logic and reason challenged ideologues that are selling him, I absolutely don't see it. I do see someone that will obey his masters, and will take perverse glee in striking out against some imagined immoral force that permeates the world.

83. Great observation
He can't seem to remember what group, if any, that he belonged to in college....but don't let that suggest that he was doing anything that those "elite" "priviledged" students who "were very careless" did.

87. I agree completely. I'm also not impressed with his speaking.
He doesn't come across as particularly confident. I don't expect a public speaker but I would like a few less Ummms.

89. I've been mulling
that over as well. Where is that much-vaunted, incisive legal mind? He stumbles and stammers around, has memory gaps as big as a house, and can't even lie convincingly (the first requirement for a good lawyer. SG

92. Wife looks like a zebra! What's up with that mess!

They must have decided that they needed a distraction from his testimony.

She is dressed in a striped suit, black and white, awful.
Who is the zebra sitting next to her?

Looks like a hyena with mange to me. The one on the right of our screen, in the black and white atrocity, is his sister, I do believe.

Here's the wife:

96. Shallow of me I know, but his wife is what I would consider a "fussy"
dresser

Very distracting,very frou- frou

And not very flattering

Wonder what that says about her personality besides the fact that I think she has poor taste

That she kids herself on a daily basis?

99. She thinks she is a style leader --ROTFL

She is a lawyer,right?

I think she is trying to get attention with her bold clothes.

Probably wants to get hired by a Washington law firm that will bring even more money into the family.

She is lost in the 50's and doesn't know it.

100. Yes, I think she
thinks she's the height of right-wing fashion chic--probably orders her clothes from a fundie catalogue to ensure modesty and insipidity. Her prissy, self-satisfied smirk speaks volumes. SG
