Why Liberal Radio and TV never works …(AAR) |
|
Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 08:46 PM by blueinindiana
The market for Liberal Radio and TV is huge and companies can make a profit catering to that audience but disinformation is a more valuable commodity to them.
Most large corporations know that more money is to be made in disinformation and in an uneducated public.
That is why the Rush’s of the world rule Radio, TV and most other forms of media.
Disinformation and the twisting of information has been enormously successful to the GOP, GOP Light Democrats and the corporations that control them.
So Rush and O’Reilly are correct from a certain point of view.

1. Actually it's because there are more stupid people than smart people. |
|
But corporations do have more money. That's true.

2. So in gastronomical terms, Rush, Sean, Savage, etc. offer listeners |
|
dessert choices worthy of the Hotel Sacher and liberal radio talk shows offer broccoli and spinach, and listeners will always choose dessert over veggies.

because disinformation is eventually found out. Right now, you see a decline in listeners to Rush et al, and an increase in progressive talk radio. There are certain businesses that will advertise on progressive stations because they are liberal businesses. Others realize that progressive listeners are a hot market now and want to jump on the bandwagon. When I was in DFW a while back, I was amazed how many local advertisers were on the local AAR station-same thing when I visited a smaller city with AAR on. Until one corporation owns everything, the market-and making money-will rule.

7. I agree with a lot that's been said here. |

When I am forced to take a long drive, virtually the only fare on radio seems to be rock music, country music, religious music, religious radio, or Republican talk radio. The basic common denominator is it's all bad. That's why I spend a great deal of time looking for a local NPR affiliate that is doing programming and not classical music. I like NPR. Its programming is good.
And that's my point. If some of the programming on AAR (which, to me, just follows the Rush Limbaugh telephone call-in model only with a liberal/progressive slant)were better and more thought-provoking, I think people might listen more. More polished programming would help. It's hard to beat something that makes you think if it's presented right.

8. Remember that Rush was heavily subsidized for years till he caught on |
|
The playing field is not even. Fox has a lot of bucks behind it. So comparisons like yours can be off notch. Ask yourself why with the Fairness Doctrine in place, the wingers needed the subsidies.

14. What is on TV-Radio-Press has nothing to do with ratings |
|
"Success" in media capiltalism has to do with selling content to those who write the checks that fund the enterprise. Corporations are not very willing to have the evil they do exposed, much less to pay for it. Media consolidation means that very few are free of that control.
