Freeper's pretending that they have military service.
I think it's time to tell the Freeper's out their that they aren't fooling anyone. Has anyone encountered this lately or is it just me? Cmon Freepers I am sure that you can come up with a better lie than saying that you spent "8 tours of duty in Iraq."

6. Someone actually claimed to have served 8 tours?
Some soldiers, real soldiers, are on their third tours, which is two more than they were told would be necessary.

7. I was in the Marine Corps.
Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 11:30 PM by Brigid
I did four years, from 1980-1984. It was peacetime (well, except for the bombing of the barracks in Beirut in 1983). I did boot camp at Parris Island, SC, spent a year on Okinawa, and spent the rest of my time at Camp Lejeune, NC. I did battalion admin work. I also spent a few years in the reserves. I was in the Indiana Air National Guard during Desert Storm. I was stateside at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson and Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio at that time. No big deal, but I'll bet it's more than most freepers have done. Eight tours? Don't be ridiculous.

11. Thank you for your service
Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 11:30 PM by DanCa
My dad was a DI in the army, my uncle lost his arm in Viet Nam. I never served in the military, I have a thing about touching guns, but I appreciate those that did serve. I get angry when Freepers make a mockery of those that do. Especially when they have never made a care package for a soldier in the war, gave a phone card, or volunteered at the VA hospital.

Note while I personally can't touch a gun doesn't mean that I have anything against the legal ownership of one. Just covering myself there. Have said all this I just want to thank all the real vets here on DU who have served. Thanks a bunch guys and gals you rock.

14. Reminds me ...
I don't know what brought up this subject, but it reminds me of those crackpot callers to progressive shows on the radio. They get all wound up and say, "I'm a veteran!!!! I know!!!! I served in Desert Storm!!!!!!!"

The host asks them what unit they were in and where they served.

The caller then hangs up.

22. Isn't 'Tour of Duty' a video game?

That's probably the closest a chickenhawk freeper will come to military service. Probably played it eight times and considers himself a combat veteran.

Everybody has probably known a fool who pretended to be ex-military. These bastards seem to cluster around aerospace and defense contractors.
