Just heard Drudge talking about Colbert--hilarious! |
|
Edited on Mon May-01-06 12:32 AM by TwoSparkles
I was surprised to hear Drudge give a fair play-by-play of the dinner. He actually played some of Colbert's clips and Drudge laughed and admitted that some of it was funny.
Drudge described Colbert's performance as a total "grilling" and a "roast" and said Colbert was "scathing." He really didn't criticize Colbert too much. He basically described what happened!
I was laughing hysterically at Drudge's description of Junior's reaction. Drudge said that the pResident's face kept getting "redder and redder by the minute." He went on to say that, "The pResident looks as if he had second-degree burns on his face."
LOL!!!
Drudge said the pResident looked VERY, VERY unhappy, and when Colbert was finished he took off, out of the room, like a bat out of hell. He said Junior was visibly upset.
I wish I could have seen more of this! I didn't see that much of Junior, but it was wonderful to hear Drudge's description of Junior's humiliation and indignation.
Drudge also said that the administration, including the pResident, were totally side swiped. They did not expect this treatment.
Drudge kept playing the clips. I swear, the more you listen, the more hilarious it gets. I think Colbert's performance will only swell in popularity and media coverage.
Remember! The pResident is clearing all of that brush for a reason! He's developing a new energy policy and soon we will have a mesquite-powered car!
BWHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

I feel like--on one hand--we have the evil fascist scary people.
And on the other hand--we have the majority of our country, who is finally waking up.
So yes--things do feel brighter. It's great to see the protests, and more people speaking out.
Colbert's words definitely are a much-needed truckload of sunshine, that's for sure!
Shine on!

The show is pretty lame.
It's either Drudge, Tom Martino or Art Bell.

22. Saw your post, then saw your screen name, had to share this story. . . |
|
I saw Ken Kesey in Los Angeles back in the '90s. It was a couple of years before his death. He gave a speech in an open air theater in Hollywood. He was great -- incredibly funny, very astute. One thing he said that stuck with me was an echo of what you just wrote. He was talking about the "privileged" and how intellectually weak so many of them are, when he suddenly declared that if we remembered anything from that day, make certain we remembered this:
"Always remember and don't ever forget," he declared, "that cream rises to the top. . ."
And there he paused a moment, before delivered the blow:
"Yes," he said, "cream rises to the top. . . and some shit floats."

I love how you describe that..."sucking on a green persimmon."
You need to write for Hallmark!
I saw Pickles when Colbert exited and he shook her hand. She didn't hide her contempt. She looked like she wanted to kill the man. I loved that!!! "No one criticizes my shameful, failure of a husband! How dare you...that's MY job!"
Junior was ticked and humiliated. Pickles knows that he'll drink himself into a stupor and that she'll be forced to cuddle and hold him while he weeps on his pResidential pillow!
LOL!!

you only have to eat one green persimmon to know not to do that again!
I wonder what makes them that way?
Hell, they're not that good when they're ripe, but when you're a kid, you'll try it.

...the administration, including the pResident, were totally side swiped. They did not expect this treatment."
Proving the complete and utter disconnect between these people and the real world. What would somebody that's ever seen the Colbert report or knows anything about the man possibly have expected? They're sooooo fuckin' CLUELESS!!!!
It's this same disconnect that will make their decision to nuke Iran, even after the total disaster of Iraq, seem a perfectly reasonable and prudent thing to do.

34. Someone in another thread (or maybe on Steve Gilliard's |
|
blog--I don't remember which) said that he figures TPTB took Colbert's right-wing persona for reality and thought they were getting an actual right-wing jokester. Maybe they thought Colbert was really like Dennis Miller.
Of course, they were also surprised that Bush was taken apart at Coretta Scott King's funeral. He obviously expected to be able to use her funeral as a photo op and was not expecting what happened.
Total disconnect from reality.

|
Edited on Mon May-01-06 12:56 AM by TwoSparkles
He isn't as well known as John Stewart or Bill Maher. However, his performance tonight is one for the records books--and the history books.
The media need to cover this!
Will they? Who knows.
Colbert gave all of them the once-over, too! He made mincemeat out of their compliance with this misAdministration. He practically called them all note takers and he thanked them all for not reporting on important stories.
It will be interesting to see what unfolds, but I don't think this story is going away any time soon.

turn and confront the President. It was good because it was true and Colbert believes in what he says.
Bush has been exposed for the coward he is, better than ever before.

26. I agree...the way Colbert "delivered" his message was... |
|
...truly masterful.
At first I was a bit puzzled. I thought...ok, he's being sardonic. He's using sarcasm to make his points. This is funny.
However, as I listened more, it became more funny. Maybe I'm not as sharp as everyone else--but it took a bit for the total message to sink in, and for me to digest just how masterfully Colbert had eviscerated Junior into humiliated bits.
What I first saw as sarcasm, I soon realized was a comprehensive and humiliating smack down on Junior.
Colbert went to the mattresses!!
By playing it "straight" as the adoring, Bush-loving sycophant, Colbert reflected back Bush's utter stupidity, hypocrisy, immaturity, foolishness, lack of intelligence and insanity.
Tonight, Colbert turned Junior into a court jester.
It was so brilliant.

23. I just hope our "own" don't sell Colbert out.... |
|
Frankly, given Jerry Springer's penchant for bending over for RWers who call in, I'll be surprised if he doesn't voice his "disapproval." While I could give a shit what Springer thinks, it really doesn't help when our own limited radio spokespeople do this in the name of appearing "even handed" and keeping a few RWers in their audience.
Hopefully, Al Franken won't similarly voice "scornful disapproval," nor highly negative "comedic" critique.
Sadly, it is some of our moderates that always seem to pop the baloon...

...it is now commonly held public perception that it is OK TO HATE THIS MOTHER FUCKING PRETENDER TO THE HIGHEST OFFICE IN THE LAND. I can stand in a parking lot in St. Peters county, Missouri, and freely rant and rage about this lying son of a bitch, and whereas two or three years ago I'd get attacked, or at the very least someone would come up to me and "sternly warn me against such sentiments", now no one bats an eye. I used to have to tiptoe a little when visiting clients, to obfuscate my political leanings, but alas, no more. And it is AMAZING how many people are EAGER to tell you "they've always hated and mistrusted that bastard".
