Will Bush Get Even With Colbert?
I'm afraid he will turn around and just try to completely destroy his career. Probably wouldn't be very hard to put a lot of pressure on the people he works for.

That would be so like these guys.

3. He's a comedian, he can't do nothing to him.
After all, we all know that * and his Neo-Con cronies have little to NO TRUE SENSE OF HUMOR.

They live in parallel universes. Lord PissyPants will pout a lot but there's little to nothing that Cobert would be punished with ... one less invite to a Hollywood Dinner party?

Don't think a problem?

27. OTOH, you remember what happened when Bill Mahr
made the claim that the hijackers were not cowardly - in fact, the opposite because they knew they were going to die. Within days, he was off Comedy Central and only to be seen on premium channel cable, greatly restricting his audience base. For us basic cable types, he might as well be on the moon.

31. Mahrer wasn't taken off Comedy Central
He had moved "Politically Incorrect" to ABC after the 1996 elections, opening up the time slot on CC that they filled with the Daily Show. I don't think his show was doing all that well, since ABC already had Nightline after the local news and some affiliates (including the one in Austin, as I recall,} would put on some syndicated show after that sp PI ended up being starved for an audience.

Anyway, the social/political climate of post-9/11 with Bush at 90% approval is very different from lame duck Bush at 32.

33. You're right - I'd forgotten it was already off CC.
I just remember that there was such a brouhaha about what he said, when I was saying the same thing -- of couse, not having a TV show, nobody noticed when I said it.

57. But Bill Maher says himself he was the only one
"fired" after 9/11. That was in the initial "watch what you say" right after 9/11. I'm sure they were gunning for him and just waiting for him to say something.

52. Nobody likes an "I told you so," but...
When I first read about PI moving to broadcast TV, I said, "He's doomed." Yes, Maher's audience would be bigger, but I knew that it was only a matter of time before he said something that would get him kicked off the air!

Or bust him for drugs.

Or have his plane crash.

Anything is possible. I don't think they will just let this go.

19. Best Move Of His Career
Years from now we'll remember Colbert's performance as one of the defining moments in the downfall of this regime. He'll also be looked upon as one of the top satyrists of this era...an artform long lost and newly claimed and re-defined by Colbert.

He's plenty insulated being in New York City...with a nice new Comedy Central contract and ratings and tons of buzz on his side. As the old PR axiom goes..."say good, say bad...just say the name right when you write the check". My concern is more that Colbert can burn out this character over time and it loses the bite it currently has.

If you didn't see the 60 minutes piece on him last night, I strongly suggest you do. This shows some of the real Colbert...then read his bio on IMDB. He's paid his dues, earned his stripes and he'll be a major comedic force as long as he chooses to do so.

It wasn't his shots at booooosh that were the real "turd in the punchbowl"...and reading some freeper threads, they weren't that offended. It's the corporate media that's smarting. They've been tweeked and done so in their own den of iniquity. They're trying to forget him like a bad Saturday date...and know that calling attention to him only will draw more attention to what he said. booooosh probably didn't get most of what he was saying.

23. They Only Go South When They Try To Be Repugnicans...Dennis Miller
I saw Robin Williams on TDS the other night...one who has never minced words for this regime, and you could see he was chomping at the bits to dial it up. Right now bashing boooooosh is comedic gold. It started with books then onto radio and now TV and into the "mainstream".

This regime tried to shut up Bill Mahrer...having ABC yank Politically Incorrect, only for him to get a bigger and more popular forum on HBO. They tried to shut up Howard Stern and he's still taking his shots as well. Wanna bet the next Michael Moore movie makes more money than the last one?

Remember, WE are now the majority...we always have been. Our voices are just starting to get in tune.

Nothing will happen to Colbert. Even if the "perps" were never caught, the suspicion alone would put * in the single digits.

Edit to add: Besides, they'd just be drawing more attention to something that so far, they're managing to stifle. With the aiding and abetting of the so-called press.

29. Get even for what? I haven't seen any reports this morning
I actually turned on MSNBC to see what the reaction has been to Saturday night, but after 10 minutes of "Bush stole the show" and seemingly endless playing of the "Dubya's Double" act, including behind the scenes information on the impersonator, I gave up. I don't think most Americans were tuned in to CSPAN (I don't even get it) Saturday night, so the whole "it never happened" approach by the mainstream media will work just fine. It makes those of us who praise Colbert in the face of denial by the msm look kind of kookie.

I do believe the pressure is on to ignore, or at least trivialize/minimize what happened. I also believe that Colbert will be made an example of by Bush administration operatives. When that happens, the mainstream media will dutifully play whatever role asked of them. Again.

...and I agree it could, then Colbert becomes a symbol. And as they say these days, symbols can't be killed. (Or made an example of.)

Either way since we're playing with metaphors here - I'm of the impresssion that a clear message has been delivered to the nucleus of the "cell", if you will. I don't think Colbert's efforts will be in vain.

Person, not a man, a man would have acknowledged his weaknesses long ago. He'll try to get even in time if we don't get him first, he's not going to forget the public humiliation, and I'm sure Colbert has made his #1 enemies list. The private one the chimp* carries in his head, it may not be soon, but, if this buffoon remains in power it will come.
