A huge fat woman from the West is sitting on the shoulders of starved African man. The 3.5 metres high sculpture epitomises the imbalanced distribution of the world’s resources, preserved by means of a biased and unjust world trade.

4. Agreed. Totally. The fact that it is a woman on the shoulders of a man

diminishes the effect. Men are still firmly in control in the western world and the sculpture misrepresents that. Unfortunately, it loses its bite because of that.

It should be a fat hog of a white male in a business suit on the back of an African woman. Why? Because life is harshest of all for women on that continent and because the fat pig of a businessman is causing the problem by refusing to allow the wealth of the world to be shared among its people.

Why are only fat women ever criticised? Take a look around you, folks, and see who the pigs really are.

and in the United States we are fat (me inluded) in all colors.

Not to mention the fact that obesity is often, in the United States, more about poor nutrition than hedonism and gluttony. Junk food is cheap and easy to prepare when you are working two jobs.

6. I didn't even think about the man/woman element when I posted this

I just thought it was pretty interesting when I 'first' saw it. I immediately thought of, "The rich have always made their money sitting on the backs of the poor", (<---pseudo-quote from a Star Trek: Next Generation episode ~ the 'Mark Twain' one) and that's why I posted it.

I guess the idea could have been 'better represented' by depicting somewhat different characters.

7. That's not a woman -- it's a man with huge man-breasts.

You see the mustache he has?

A distinct resemblance to the 'Monopoly' fat-cat, riding on the back of the third-world native.

ON EDIT --- I was wrong. Looked at the blow up on the link, it is a woman. The 'mustache' I see in the thumbnail disappears in the close-up. It is a bloated Justice (always a woman, usually blindfolded) with out-of-balance scales. So it's not just 'a woman' but a representation of what was a Western ideal that is grown beyond recognition.

I think it makes it more interesting, to see the intent of the sculptor.
