And the Cognitive Dissonance Award goes to... |
|
I'm on my way to the office this morning to pick up a couple of switches and see how the network is doing when I see it...
No. It can't be. I must be hallucinating.
Can that possibly be... a big, black, shiny Hummer... with a KERRY/EDWARDS STICKER IN THE REAR WINDOW?
I couldn't help it. I busted out laughing and almost wrecked the car.
I mean, did the owner of that vehicle think; "Now what can I do to piss off the maximum number of people while I drive around? I know! I'll get a vehicle that's so big and obnoxious that it's named after a slang word for oral sex, and then to piss off the OTHER half of the city, I'll slap a K&E sticker on it!"
It just struck me as hilarious.

The "Forrester for Governor" signs along Route 24 West had me laughing so hard, I nearly had an accident myself!

2. No different than seeing a "Save the Wilderness" sticker on an Expedition |

...or other large SUV. And, strangely, this is something I see fairly often.
I assume the owners fancy themselves as outdoors people.

My point being, I can see value in owning a hummer given the appropriate and rare circumstances that warrant it. Certainly, pavement pounding in an urban environment does not qualify. However, rural terrain, non-maintained roads, etc... In those cases you pick the 4WD vehicle that works best for you. Be that a truck, SUV, hummer, or jeep.
Personally, I prefer the Toyota Tundra (complete with my DU sticker, Linux sticker, and Kerry sticker)... I'm not all that far from a Hummer H3 owner in terms of GVW/gas milage/etc... but I need a 4x4 truck to haul stuff where regular vehicles can't.
What is a working dem to do ? ;)

It was an H2, and the closest this thing has probably gotten to being offroad was the time some lawn clippings drifted onto the tires.
Oh, it was northbound on Kenny, about a mile above King.
