Costliest hurricane in US history? |
|
Wolfie just spouted that pearl of wisdom from his blow hole.
I must have been horribly out of the loop for months, because I read that the hurricane itself did little damage. The slipshod construction and maintenance of the levees was what caused the horrendous damage. Would they have failed without the hurricanes? perhaps not, BUT the fact that they are all that protected a BELOW SEA LEVEL city, and were NOT adequate, is hardly the "fault" of a hurricane.
Hurricanes have been happening in and around the gulf FOREVER. They are predictable and with modern technology, we can analyze them like never before.
NOAA and other agencies have been warning the corps of engineers and the federal government for DECADES. Lack of preparation is what damaged new orleans.. a total failure of government. call it "Hurricane Disdain"

this was likely to happen eventually and the obvious steps were not taken because of money and politics.
the part that couldnt have been predicted is that fema and the federal government would fail new orleans and its people so utterly.
