1. How does one do bit torrents?
Can I write this to a CD and have it play like a DVD?
Do you know of a good reference on this?

2. Sure. Bit Torrents are awesome. Peer-to-peer for grownups.

Of course, start with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bit_torrent. Also, there is a good FAQ at http://www.dessent.net/btfaq/

You will need ---

1. A broadband connection

2. A BT client installed
- There are several nice ones free for download. I highly recommend you use the one available at http://azureus.sourceforge.net/

3. A tracker with items you wish to download.
- Whatever you want, you can find it in Bit TorrentLand. There are some meta-searches that will get you there. Here are a few --- http://www.torrentspy.com/, http://www.mininova.org/, http://thepiratebay.org/

Good luck!

3. Thanks!
I downloaded the software from BitTorrent, and I have downloaded the Colbert file and written it to a CD. My computer understands it to be a "video clip", and double-clicking it brings up WMP, but it doesn't play as video. It seems to think it is a song.

I will read the FAQ link you posted...

4. If you are getting video but not audio, you need to install some codecs.
Edited on Tue May-02-06 05:45 AM by jefferson_dem
Try searching for video codecs - http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=DELA,DELA:2006-04,DELA:en&q=video+codecs+

If you are using windows mediaplayer, search with this one - http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=DELA,DELA:2006-04,DELA:en&q=video+codecs+mediaplayer

Or you could try launching the file with whatever program you use to play DVDs in your computer - if you have a DVD drive.
