Dennis Kucinich - kucinich.us - Insight and Action
Dear Friend,
"...we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, our sacred
Honor." These words from the Declaration of Independence are a high
expression of human solidarity in support of human freedom. Through the
years we, too, have made a pledge to each other. Because of your generous
support I have been able to be your national spokesperson for peace, and
social and economic justice. Along with my sincere gratitude, let me
convey my unyielding commitment. There is something further and it is
important that you know: I am under attack, and I need your help now!
Please contribute:
http://www.kucinich.us/contribute I am being attacked for my stance against the war
<
http://www.kucinich.us/insight/iraq/>, my legislation for a Cabinet-Level
Department of Peace <
http://www.kucinich.us/insight/dept_peace/> and my
striving for universal health care

support. Please contribute:
http://www.kucinich.us/contribute On Sunday, April 23rd, Cleveland's Plain Dealer, the largest newspaper in
Ohio, endorsed my opponent in the May 2nd primary, despite admitting that
she lacks experience and has no chance of winning. (And despite the fact
that through a two- year campaign of personal attacks, she has yet to take
a single position on any national issue.) Nevertheless, the Plain Dealer
used both their Saturday, April 22nd and Sunday paper to distort my
record, question my qualifications for office and dismiss our aspirations
for peace and health care for all.
On April 20th, they used their editorial page to allow a Republican vying
for the Congressional seat I hold to state that I have "communist values".
In response to this red-baiting, the Plain Dealer called the candidate
"forthright" and "admirable". Think about it. Here is a big city daily
newspaper abandoning its reputation with an unsigned editorial,
enthusiastically serving as a vehicle for the kind of red-baiting that was
discredited by every respectable editorialist nearly 50 years ago.
The primary election is tomorrow - Tuesday, May 2nd. I am confident I will
prevail. But the editorial posturing, partisan poison and hysterical
distortions of my record may well continue, and necessitate a very
expensive General Election campaign.
I will not back down. While others want to perpetuate war, look the other
way as forty-six million Americans have no health insurance, and let the
oil companies rob the American people, I will continue to speak out.
I will continue to speak out against the illegal and immoral war in Iraq
<
http://www.kucinich.us/insight/iraq/>. I will continue to be our voice in
Congress to stop a war in Iran
<
http://www.kucinich.us/floor_speeches/intl_iran_freedom26apr.php>. And I
will continue to be our voice in Congress for universal health care
<
http://www.kucinich.us/insight/health_care/>, a full employment economy,
an excess profits tax on the oil companies to end the gouging at the pump
<
http://www.kucinich.us/insight/energy_env/>. And I will continue to work
for the creation of a Department of Peace.
But I cannot do it alone and I need your financial support. Please
contribute:
http://www.kucinich.us/contribute With your help, I am confident I can continue to be our voice of reason,
peace and justice in Congress. A voice you know cannot be bought and will
not be silenced!
On April 30th, 1789, George Washington was inaugurated as the first
President of the United States. It was a time of great expectations for a
new nation. Two hundred and seventeen years later, let us once again call
forth great expectations for America. Let us show that with firmness and
courage we can renew our nation. Thank you for being there for me. Thank
you for believing in a just and peaceful America.
Sincerely,
Dennis
