Senate Committee Kills "Jessica's Law" Bill
Senate Committee Kills "Jessica's Law" Bill

Written for the web by C. Johnson, Internet News Producer
KXTV, California

A measure that would have mandated electronic monitoring of convicted child molestors and put more limits on where they could live has been killed in committee.

Senate Bill 722, also known as "Jessica's Law" after similar legislation in Florida, was defeated in a 4-2 vote in the state Senate Public Safety Committee on Tuesday.

One provision of SB 722 appears to have doomed its passage. Some Central Valley Democratic lawmakers expressed reservations about the measure prohibiting registered child sex offenders from living near schools or parks. They asserted the provision would preclude sex offenders from living in urban area, in essence forcing them into less populated locations such as communities in the Central Valley.

1. i can see why
Its just like pushing them off to the poor areas where there are more children and less attention to these events. Just sickens me that this issue just cant be figured out.

3. Hey, maybe the Dems should support sex offenders being banned
from living in "urban" (conservative code word for "blacks live here") areas . . . I mean, the lower "IQ to square mileage" factor seems to make an area more Repuke, right? So, send all the "sex offenders" away from the cities to those rural areas, where there is less "police force" making regular rounds . . .

Similar in concept to all the BRIGHT RED areas that are just SCREAMING for being places to store nuclear waste . . .
