McCaskill Calling Talent out on Stem Cell Research!
Over 280,000 signatures were recently sent in for a ballot initiative to protect stem cell research in Missouri. Only 137,000 were needed to do so. Claire McCaskill wasted no time applauding the effort and called on Sen. Talent to show some leadership:

"I have been clear about my position on this issue from the start- I believe we should be promoting hope for people suffering from debilitating diseases, not criminalizing it."

"Now is the time for Jim Talent to finally announce where he stands on this issue. For the past few months, he has refused to take a stand, preferring instead to dance around science for political cover. The people of Missouri deserve to know where he stands on this initiative."

1. Missouri Senate: McCaskill 42% Talent 41%
April 12, 2006--In our latest survey of the suspenseful race for the U.S. Senate in Missouri, Democratic State Auditor Claire McCaskill now nominally leads Republican Senator Jim Talent, the first-term incumbent, by 42% to 41%.

A month ago, our Missouri election poll showed McCaskill at 43% and Talent at 40%.

Talent may be weakened by disarray among Republicans, and he has also had to deal with the issue of stem-cell research. That issue is a hot potato in Missouri thanks to an initiative on the ballot this November that would ban the state from further restricting stem-cell research. The Senator has withdrawn his support for a bill that would ban all forms of human cloning.

4. No, but who doesn't need some magic? I have
a step-son with a bizarre disease called Friedrich's Ataxia; he's 36 years old, has 3 kids, and on the downhill of his life. He doesn't expect to make 50. :( I've known this kid since he was 9, and my heart breaks constantly.

5. Yes, the opportunity for cures is much more important than the...
religious radicalism that would prevent it.
