Fun with The Dove Foundation
For some reason, The Dove Foundation's telemarketers decided to call on me today.

I had just finished watching my TiVo'd Daily Show and Colbert Report from last night, and was in a good mood (way to go Jon.) So I actually answered the phone, even though an 800-number came up on my caller ID

Dove Foundation telemarketer (DFT): Good morning, I am calling with the Dove Foundation. We are a non-profit (blah, blah) concerned about the decline in the standards of Hollywood movies.

FLDem5: What decline?

DFT: Are you the parent or grandparent of any children 16 or under?

FLDem5: Yes, I have three children in that age group.

DFT: Hollywood controls the movies and movies are getting edgier and less family friendly and we, as concerned citizens are trying to stop this.

FlDem5: What are you talking about? Almost every weekend there is a family movie I can take my kids to. Disney and Pixar make great family films all the time.

DFT: Well besides them, almost 2/3 of all movies released have an R rating.

FLDem5: Well, aren't there more adults than children in the world?

DFT: We are trying to take back the entertainment industry for families.

FLDem5: I'm sorry, I must not be your target demographic, I'm not an angry conservative.

DFT: Thank you for your time.

Hee hee hee. Childish, yes. But fun.

2. Lazy bastards, who want the MOVIES to RAISE THEIR KIDS!
It used to be that you could dump the kids off at your local theater on the weekend (remember those? They were usually found in the center of town, such a quaint concept, and had one screen) with fifty cents or a dollar if you were a sport, and the rugrats could watch a slew of cartoons and a double feature. The double feature was geared to the rugrats during matinee time. The parents could then go shopping and do whatever business they needed to accomplish.

With these mutiplexes, hell, the little shits could buy a ticket for "Cheesy Forgettable Cartoon" and, after waving goodbye to the parents, sneak into "Slasher Gory Inappropriate Sexual Content" without anyone batting an eye.

So what do these jerks want? All films to achieve the LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR?? Sorry, it ain't "all about the CHILLLLLLLLDREN." It's about the crappy parents, too. Ya don't want your kids to see "inappropriate" crap? Well, pay attention!!!! Hollywood, or any other film production center, is NOT in the business of shielding everyone's ankle biters...that's the job of the PARENTS.

3. I had a similar experience with them early last year...
Edited on Tue May-02-06 09:33 AM by mcscajun
I'd never heard of them before they started showing up on my Caller ID. I use it to screen calls, but I finally got curious enough about them to answer one -- AFTER I'd researched them and knew what they were about, so this was a planned incursion into enemy territory.

I wonder if they still have the quote on their site about "the changing morays (sic) of society"?

6. I know...So RUDE!

You Know it's not the first time they got that kind of reception...nor will it be the last.

And I checked...yes, the "morays" are still buried on the site. :D

4. So why are these parents who are so concerned taking their
children to see R rated movies? Hmmm? I thought this was an ownership society where the free market and personal responsibility ruled, not the opinions of a select group of theo-fascists.
