OMG...Rex the Homeland Security Mountain Lion (I feel safer already...)
Lion Let Loose on Mall In case you weren't already excited that Public Service Recognition Week is just around the corner, here's some news that may perk up your interest: Rex the Homeland Security Mountain Lion will be down on the National Mall to help celebrate it. I'll admit, I didn't even know of Rex's existence (let's face it, he's not exactly Smokey the Bear) until this morning. But he's already been interviewed in Playboy, so he's gotta be something of a player.

REX, THE DAD

Rex, the DadRex is Rory's dad and Purrcilla's husband. He is an explorer who loves taking his family on adventures! An all-around athlete, he stays in great shape by climbing rocks and trees, swimming across rivers, and running through the forest and plains.

Rory giggles when she calls her dad "the king of the forest," but with his confidence and courage he is a leader that many forest animals are happy to follow. A great teacher, he encourages Rory to use her imagination.

Here's a little more about Rex:

HE LOVES: Making friends! He talks to everyone he meets and loves to learn all about them. Rex knows that everyone has a special story and something great to share.

SKILLS: He has an amazing sense of sight and touch and can find anything!

Of course Rex is one curious cat. He has access to 60 Terabytes of data that AT&T gave him a couple years ago, and he's still pawing through all those phone, e-mail and internet records. He knows that everyone has a "special story".

What's yours? Rex already knows.

4. Is this a joke? This fucking pisses me off. How much of our
homeland security dollars went into that? Who needs that? Why don't they get off of their asses and make it a priority to secure our borders as much as they've made it a priority to secure Iraq's borders?

12. And check out speedy Hector, moves quickly from one place to next
ECTOR HUMMINGBIRD

Hector Hummingbird A real smarty-pants, Hector is Rex's best friend and right-hand bird! Dependable and fast, other forest creatures know that Hector is the one to go to when a message needs to get out quickly!

Here's a bit more about Hector:

SKILLS: Speed. Darting quickly from one place to another, he passes messages at lightning speed. Sometimes he flies so fast that his goggles fly off!

HOBBY: When not exploring with Rex, Hector can usually be found on a limb trying to catch the attention of a pretty love bird.

24. "Hector" sounds too close to "Vector" .
"An organism, such as a mosquito or tick, that carries disease-causing microorganisms from one host to another."

18. Oh, gosh. I had no idea there really was a cartoon character for that.
Not too surprising, though. Propaganda always goes down a little easier when you hide it in a cartoon.

15. You did know Rex is Latin for King right?
Here:
Definitions of rex on the Web:

* The curled effect of a cat's coat. (eg., Devon Rex)
www.flippyscatpage.com/glossary.html

* A velvety luxurious coat with no guard hairs.
www.omlet.co.uk/guide/guide.php

* A Roman term for King
myweb.tiscali.co.uk/temetfutue/glossary/glossaryR.htm

* king: a male sovereign; ruler of a kingdom
wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

* Rex, Regional Express Airlines, is a regional airline serving Southeast states of Australia. Rex was formed by the acquisition of Hazelton and Kendell airlines, and started operations in August 2002.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rex_(airline)

I guess it does have cat connotations as well.

19. Rex appears to be a steroid abuser.
And what's with the "come hither" look? Has he modeled for Randy Blue? Is he an ex-boyband member? And then there's this:

"He talks to everyone he meets and loves to learn all about them"
The better to report any anomalies to The DHS?

Everything this administration produces is weird and creepy.
