In America, if you're sick and poor, you might as well just die

You can't afford health insurance, and if you can, the out-of-pocket costs will break your back. And, if you have any lapses in coverage, they won't cover your pre-existing conditions. And, now, if you run up medical bills as a result, you can't declare bankruptcy.

I guess the "compassionate" right believes if God loved you, you wouldn't be sick, and if you are, you would at least have the money to pay for it.

In their minds, if you're sick and poor, you might as well do the world a favor and simply die.

We're supposed to look after them. Protect them. Help them.

I guess this is another "rule" that George Bush feels he doesn't have to abide by. He'll have fun explaining this to his maker when the time comes. God will not be happy, nor will he believe any of George's lies. God knows better.

On top of the health problems, a person has to deal with predatory businesses. It becomes almost impossible to ever get out of the situation. If you can't pay the medical bills, the creditors start calling, which ruins your credit score. Employers use the score during the hiring process, denying jobs to poor risks. Insurance companies raise your premiums including car insurance, even if you have a clean driving record.

Banks charge exorbitant fees on overdrafts, being late, over-limit, and interest rates, which in turn lowers your credit score even more.

5. There is a particularly virulent brand of Christianity that teaches:

(1) God has already healed everyone who has the faith to be healed you only need claim it for yourself (if that doesn't work then you are cursed by God and it's your fault you are not healed); and
(2) God wants you to prosper and if you are not prospering (i.e., if you are poor) then you are cursed by God and it's your fault.

Among these particular fundies being sick and/or poor is symptomatic of God's curse. So, yes, in their eyes you might as well do the world a fovor and just die.

But I'm neither a smoker nor overweight, and I'm sure I'm not alone in not causing my own conditions.

I was severely abused when as a child, and started smoking at a young age. Having met other women that said they to were abused, I couldn't help but notice they were all smokers.

Statistics from different sources have led me to believe, that there is a strong connection between childhood trauma, mental illness and smoking.

It's socially acceptable, to tell these people, that they should have their children taken away, and deserve to die. They also make an easy mark, for politicians looking for ways to raise revenue.

While I haven't had a problem with being overweight, the last time I was pregnant people thought I was. It was an eye opening experience. Cashiers were rude, people in front of me entering businesses would let doors slam in my face, people definitely made a miserable situation more so.
