Send a rose to Mothers who have lost a child in Iraq this Mother's Day

Not-So-Happy Mother's Day

This Mother's Day, President Bush and his wife Laura will take joy in their daughters. They'll also take an untenable stand to continue an unjust occupation of Iraq that has caused thousands of mothers to have their joy replaced by unspeakable grief. Mothers who have lost sons and daughters in Iraq will mark Mother's Day as one more painful reminder of an irreparable loss.

But they will not be alone.

On May 14, mothers of fallen and wounded soldiers, including Cindy Sheehan and women from Iraq and Iran, will gather in front of the White House for a 24-hour-vigil to honor the dead and demand an end to the occupation. Here are three things you can do to help.

Send a Flower
Here
Send a Mother's Day rose to Washington, D.C., and let the mothers of the fallen and wounded soldiers know that you stand with them and against the war. Organic roses will be presented to the mothers and tied to the fence outside the White House as a memorial to the dead and a call for peace. Click here to send a rose.

President Bush didn't listen to those advisers who told him there were no WMDs, or that we'd need hundreds of thousands of troops to prevent civil war in Iraq. Maybe he'll listen to his wife? Let's all ask Laura to tell George -- invading Iran would be a huge mistake and only lead to thousands more grief-stricken moms next year on Mothers Day. Click here to send a message to Laura Bush.

Send Yourself
Here
Volunteer with CODEPINK in Washington, D.C. for Mother’s Day weekend. Join a 24-hour vigil in front of the White House calling for an end to the insanity of sending our children to war. For more information, click here.

Please forward this email to all your friends!!!

1. This is a GREAT idea...
I was at Camp Casey when all the roses arrived -- over 1000 of them. It was truly amazing. We all had roses to put on the crosses at Arlington South.

I encourage everyone to do this and to pass the email along to everyone you know.

Thanks for posting this.

I hope we get a lot of responses. The roses are only $3 from Organic Bouquet, the company that was used to order the roses for Helen.

6. for a minute I thought you meant to really send a rose to mothers of the
fallen. I think that would be super classy idea and a way to show these women in a very personal way how much we truly care about those who've been lost in this war.

Your idea is a good PR idea...but I wonder if we could actually send a rose to each of the 2400-something moms from DU?

9. thanks. also a real PR project helping dispell the lies told by freeptards
about how little we democrats/progressives/liberals (or whatever-the-hell we're supposed to refer to ourselves as 'round here these days) supposedly care about our fellow Americans.

13. I sent it on to everybody on my email list also, especially
the Repugs I know. ha My nephew is a Marine who came back from the war, and I am so grateful for that - it's the least we can do to honor these mothers in this way.

14. OK I am going to get flamed for sure
Will these just go to Mother's who are against the war, or to random Mother's of fallen soldiers in general?

I cannot tolerate the bushists and think anyone who lost a child in this sham that still supports the war must be deeply in denial (or nuts) but they are still a mother that has lost their child and if they are pro-war I don't think I would be comfortable with foisting a political message on them in the form of a rose on Mother's Day.

This is very unlike me to bring this up (surprised at myself actually) but I would not feel comfortable offending someone with a gesture like this if they didnt agree with a progressive view point (I mean they have lost their kids)

Just my two cents--not sure what to make of this but maybe I have misconstrued this.

No offense meant to the organizers!

15. Well, all the mothers that will be at the demonstration
will be against the war - so there is your answer.

The idea is to tie them to the White House Fence.

16. OK I get what the point is now
That's a nice sentiment--I thought it was a deal where random people would be sent roses at their listed addresses.

Yes, this is a nice gesture (sorry, I *get it* now... not trying to be arbitrary)
