Immigration hypothetical
My first topic, and I appreciate the opportunity DU.
I have been viewing the immigration issue through a construction worker's eyes, which, from where I sit, gives me a perspective people in other occupations may not have. Same goes for me vise-versa. Here is the hypothetical. Instead of mostly uneducated, and unskilled workers, which comprise the vast majority of people coming across the border, those people were well-educated, skilled white-collar workers who were willing to do the jobs in the offices, schools, research, industry, factory, etc. they are qualified for, and at a greatly reduced wage. Not just the upper crust, but skills of the entire job spectrum. I can see it being easier to applaud citizenship and open borders, especially if the migration does not affect me or my family's hard-earned place in society. That's one of the aspects of this issue which, I believe, is percieved differently by different people according to their own station in life. I'm laid off from work right now, so I thought I might participate a little more, and get some views from, you know, "right-thinking Americans":patriot:
Thanks

1. Hospitals only employ illegals to clean.
Seriously... if there was no licensing issue, you can bet your bottom dollar that doctors from India and Cuba and wherever else would be flooding in to do those jobs, as well.

But the GOP isn't protecting their ability to hire illegal immigrants... yet.

Focus on the problem... the DEMAND. End the DEMAND, and the supply will stop.

It's just like the idiotic drug war... as long as there are consumers, the product will continue to flow.

That's why blaming Mexican illegal immigrants for this problem is such a joke. The problem is not the immigrants, it's the employers who are allowed to exploit their labor.

4. I agree completely!
Follow the money... corporate America... GWBushCo...

That's why I think the Latino population has been taken for a ride in this protest by the GOP. Divide and conquer...

I'm betting the outcome of any immigration reform will bite illegal immigrants in the ass and benefit the corporations.

5. CUT THE WAGES EVEN LOWER.
THAT'S WHAT IS NEEDED. YOU WILL GET LOW ENOUGH EVENTUALLY TO REVERSE THIS TREND. ALSO IT WILL HELP THE STOCK MARKET.
