16 yo boy executes his father's killer.
I'm sorry, I think this is sick. How can turning a 16yo into a killer be a good thing?

2. It can't be a good thing. What a horrible story. To me that....
16 year old boy will find it easy to kill after this. More and more I want the world to stop so I can get off.

6. In a previous life, (read, pre-kids) I was a
practicing adolescent psychotherapist. I can't imagine this child's life going down a virtuous path after this. Of course, I am speaking strictly from Western Mores, and I recognize that I am deficient in sharia customs and laws, but I just can't imagine this ending well.

11. Me too.
I'm waiting for the revenge-murder-is-good contingent. Maybe they can play the video for THEIR children (assuming this will be on one of those gory websites).

10. It was damned funny.
And anyone who says otherwise either a) hasn't seen the movie, which by the way, has a wonderful tidbit of advice for Bush in it or b) is humorless.

The addition of "Al" was fucking hilarious. :toast:

5. Disgusting
"I am happy now because I killed the man who killed my father," he told the Reuters news agency.

Equally disgusting that the pictures of the event were immediately available online.

9. First off, let me say that I'm against the death penalty
But I do have to admire this cultural practice for one thing, at least it's honest. At least Somali culture recognizes that the DP is all about vengance, and are open, honest and practice what they preach. Unlike the US where it is state sanctioned murder, supposedly about deterence, and done in a sterile, stark atmosphere, with the ones most effected looking on, not participating.

Do I like this practice, no. But I do admire the honesty that the Somalis practice in this regard.

12. More from the story from Somalia
A teenage Somali boy has stabbed to death his father's killer in a public execution ordered by an Islamic court.

Large crowds gathered at a Koranic school in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu, to watch Mohamed Moallim, 16, stab Omar Hussein in the head and throat. Hussein had been convicted of killing the boy's father, Sheikh Osman Moallim, after a row about Mohamed's education.

Islamic courts have brought a semblance of order to Mogadishu, imposing Sharia law after years of rule by warlords. Under Sharia law those who commit murder are punishable by death...(clip)

The execution marked the first time the local court in the Bermuda district of Mogadishu had handed down a death penalty, local media reported. Residents in the nearby area have reported a drop in robberies, murder and general lawlessness since the court began its work, Radio HornAfrik said.

13. Certainly not my place to judge
Luckily, I've never had a family member murdered. However, I'm sure there are parents of kids who have been murdered that wouldn't condemn the kid.

this being a good thing for a 16 year old boy to have had to do.

19. That kind of execution- I suppose any kind of "execution"- isn't
justice.

If the boy had sought out the man and killed him- KNOWING, 100% that the man had killed his father, i.e. having seen the deed for himself- I'd see that as some form of justice. Not the classical kind.

But, executions, in themselves, especially state-sponsored, are simply not within the realm of justice. It's inherently hypocritical.

It's wrong.

600 years ago, the "West" was more savage and brutal than the Islamic world is today. Things do change, only sometimes it takes too damn long.

28. Different value systems
Who are we to judge them?

We really cant run around imposing on values on other cultures. Thats what has gotten us into trouble in Iraq.

30. If you are trying to sound like a parody of a conservative
Good job.

wtf ! ?

I don't agree with state sanctioned murder, and having a relative dish it out is even worse - IMO.

But thats just my opinion and maybe yours (I don't know since you didnt offer one, other than a snide remark)

Things are alot different under Sharia law - Surely you understand that.

WHY is it different? Well its the people who have implemented Sharia feel that it represents their values. If it did not, they wouldnt have it.

So save the sanctimonious "clever" response.

Now if this sorta if thing is attempted to be implemented here (say having the victims family initiate lethal injection), I'll be the first to cry foul.

But for now, I'd prefer to try and fix our own damn problems and stay out of the business of other cultures. If thats a "parody", then so be it.
