Poll question: Did Colbert's WHCD speech hurt the neocons?
I use the term "hurt" loosely.

Do you think it could be said that, in any way, what Colbert did hurt the neocons, be it politically, psychologically, etc.?

2. I don't know about emotional fall out
I do imagine though that this is another chink in the Bush Administrations illusion of power. They want to appear inevitable and unassailable, and there was colbert making fun of them pretty directly. That has to hurt their appearance.

At least that's what my gut tells me.

4. Absolutely. That would be a political effect.
He simply showed that Bush is politically, directly assailable. And not just in the nice, political way.

3. Most of the public didn't see it and never will because corpmedia is
Edited on Tue May-02-06 03:43 PM by blm
making sure they don't.

So, how can it have an impact?

I would doubt that more than1% of the voting Americans public saw Colbert's smackdown, so, it didn't happen.

I would say that it definitely HURT FEELINGS of anyone left in that crowd who has any feelings left.

6. What about the people in the room?
How do you think they were affected- really?

Do you think they thought about it on the way home?

Or do you think they just got defensive and put up that emotional barrier? "It's not me!" and made excuses for themselves.

7. My personal opinion-
Edited on Tue May-02-06 03:50 PM by BullGooseLoony
I don't think anyone in that room is going to forget what he did for a very, very long time.

Although, the deliberate AVOIDANCE in the media shows they are TRYING to, with all their might. They were humiliated.

That's what they're going to be thinking about when they go to sleep. You know, when the brains of us commoners are bringing up that freaking time we tripped on a step during graduation, in front of everyone?

They're going to be thinking about Stephen Colbert, and what he said about them on national TV, to their faces.

Just MHO.

11. Oh, I agree with every word of that.
The part of them that knows they are committing fraud against the American people has to hurt at some point.

5. Yes! Because every time they talk about it, they either have to
Edited on Tue May-02-06 03:44 PM by IdaBriggs
a) SAY WHAT HE SAID (so they can explain how wrong he is, which he isn't), or
b) PRESENT THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF WHATEVER THEY ARE SAYING (so they look 'fair and balanced')

both of which mean

THEY ARE PUBLICLY EXPOSING THE TRUTHINESS OF HIS STATEMENTS --

Now, try to "spin" the following statement:

"Reality has a liberal bias" --

It just makes their heads explode!!!!

9. Although Colbert's schtick was courageous and amazing...
...we cannot get anywhere unless the MSM is willing to cover it.

Otherwise, only the "choir" gets to see it, and that does not make a difference in terms of changing minds or doing damage to the pResident.

Colbert made us feel good. He made us laugh. He gave us hope--because someone stood a few feet away from Captain Insanity and spelled out the truth. We should all take away good things from what Colbert so masterfully did.

Unfortunately though--the MSM has hid Colbert underneath a bushel. They've suffocated the story. Hence, any effectiveness---beyond making us feel good--is lost.

This should have been a huge MSM story. It should have been a springboard for discussion about Junior's horrid policies, in addition to the media questioning their own compliance with this administration. Neither of those things are happening.

Sad to say---this will not be the moment that makes any difference.

12. Like how the media CONVENIENTLY missed Kerry's speech attacking Swiftliars
and their connection to the WH at his August 19, 2004 speech to the Firefighters Convention. If you didn't see it on Cspan, it didn't happen.

13. Yes, because he SAID THINGS THAT NEEDED TO BE SAID.
Once people hear the words, it becomes possible for them to frame concepts in their minds.

Bush lied about WMD's.

Bush manipulated intelligence.

The Bush family are crooks.

Dick Cheney is a corporate crony and a criminal.

Bush authorized torture.

Bush has no plan for Iraq.

Bush exposed the cover of CIA agent in an act of political revenge.

I felt the same stark EMOTION of utter surprise and disillusionment after Cobert's performance as I did when little ToTo scampered over and pulled back the curtain to reveal "The Fraud" representing The Wizard of Oz in that old movie.

Cobert showed *'s smarmy underbelly and PROVED to the Corporate Press that The USA Sheeple are getting the truth from other sources. The ELITE Press Corps are scared as hell to realize how much the Average American understand their enabling behaviors and outright whoring for this criminal Executive Branch. THEY (The Corporate Press) have not been successful at covering up anything! OMG, it's their moment of epiphany ---> out of the bubble and mutual sucking up they do among the like-minded. They should be ashamed but instead, they are lashing out at the messenger.

22. Are the presidential press corps neo-cons?
I'm hoping Cobert's words sunk into one of their selfish cold hearted little brains. Just one. (Changing the neo-con's minds is impossible-ideology like that is more than a JOB, it's a religion-the media are just looking to feather their nest the easiest way possible)
