don't you get it?

the immigrants are not here to steal your job or your money. It's not like they were sitting at home, plotting on a way to come over and take over your economy. Most live in poverty, and they saw an opportunity to change that... an opportunity they were willing to risk their lives for in some cases. you can't blame them for the situation that creates this. Scratch that, you can, but WHY WOULD YOU?

There are so many things to fight here, but the migrant workers are not one.

Start with Loving Thy Neighbor. Remembering that we are liberal, and as such we start with the will to nurture one's own or anothers spiritual growth. We seek out ways to help the weakest link, because we know we are only that strong.

Then go after the CEOs that are perpetuating this cycle.

ALSO: Keep in mind that NONE of us would be talking about this if the immigrants themselves didn't bring it up. This should serve as a clue. When the fatcat CEO is watching the money roll in not saying a thing...

COME ON PEOPLE....... how can we honestly fall for this sleight of hand again and again?

5. People keep saying that and putting up ancedotes about that
but no one is putting up facts and figures. I worked a lot with aliens in the restaurant business in California as a payroll bookkeeper and not a single one was paid less than their American co-workers, and they all paid taxes. So put up the facts that say differently.

6. If they shipped out each and everyone of the 12million illegals
Your neighbor would still be getting low wages. The US oligarchs up their golden parachutes 400% while they hold their workers wages to minimum pay and deny benefits such as health insurance or retirement plans. Do you think any of these bottom feeders give a damn about your neighbors.

3. Well put, slybacon 9.
It frustrates me to no end that people keep
getting distracted and divisive over this minor,
petty "problem".

We read statements MONTHS AGO that Rove had said
he was going to make immigration the big wedge issue
for the '06 elections...
and yet, even after being warned MONTHS ahead of time,
so many of us are falling for the same old tricks,
reading straight from the script that the White House has handed us.

I agree that Immigration is a problem that should be addressed,
but it sure isn't close to the top of the list!

We have much more important things to be working on right now.
And we all know it.

8. I don't give a crap about spiritual growth. I'm a liberal because
Edited on Tue May-02-06 04:27 PM by mondo joe
I believe in civil rights. As the conservative worm has turned, it turns out my belief in science, in fiscal responsibility and ethics also mark me as a liberal.

And in the same way I, a liberal, believe we need to manage our resources, which includes managing immigration.

I don't need to love my neighbor - I need to be sure my neighbor's rights as an American are respected.

Spiritualism is a personal matter - not public policy.

11. I'm chilled nicely, thanks, but love and spirit remain personal issues,
not public policy.

Focus on the rights, not love or spirit, which are easily twisted.
