...on this circling Jet, while it burns off it fuel, like the last few times?

BTW, it blew both Left rear tires, but it still has its rims and the gear is locked.

15. If it's a Continental Express, it's not a DC9/MD80, it's an Embraer jet.
As far as I know, Continental Express' entire fleet is comprised of Embraer 135s and 145s.

I don't know if they have fuel dump capability.

17. Yup, you are Correct. I just found a picture of one at Airliners.net

Actually several <http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?aircraftsearch=Embraer%20EMB-145XR%20%28ERJ-145XR%29&distinct_entry=true>

It's a Embraer EMB-145XR (ERJ-145XR), anyone know where they are made or how old they are?

2. Yes, they can dump fuel, but they usually just burn it off.
Unless there's a need to land ASAP, they'll usually just hold at lower altitudes until they burn off the necessary fuel.

3. I am DC-9/MD-80 type rated and a former MD-80 captain.
No fuel dump capability on MD-80/DC-9.

7. Really?
How do you get rid of fuel, just drive around a lot?

11. Very few modern jetliners can "dump" fuel.
Fly around at a relatively low altitude (higher fuel consumption rate) and consume the fuel, if you must.

10. Do they train the flight crew on landing with this type of situation?
Both Left rear tires are completely shredded and missing.

14. Dual tire failure is not an emergency. It is an "abnormal."
From my MD-80 Quick Reference Handbook:

1. Leave landing gear extended.

2. Assess aircraft condition.

3. Proceed to nearest suitable airport.

4a. IF LANDING WITH DUAL MAIN LANDING GEAR TIRE FAILURES ON SAME SIDE:
Fly normal approach and flare profile. Use rudder and nose-wheel steering for directional control. Use braking on the side opposite the dual tire failure for stopping and to keep the airplane rolling straight. Go to step 5.

5. Tire failure checklist complete.

Yes, this type of abnormal operation is trained in the simulator.

5. Well, here we go again!
What would really make CNN's day would be if while the plane is circling, Wolf Blitzer finds out that on-board is a Runaway Bride, who suffers from toe-nail fungus (enter Paula Zahn), insomnia (paging Dr. Sangay Gupta), is extremely upset by Paula Abdul's performance on American Idol this year (get Anderson Cooper, quick!), whose fiance is missing since he took a cruise two weeks ago (Nancy Grace can be there in ten minutes), and once had a two-minute conversation in a Memphis diner with Elvis 'The King' Presley (a Larry King EXCLUSIVE).

8. I'd want to see the split screen for that, NanceGreggs!
It would look like "The Brady Bunch" intro.

12. Oh.My.God.
Ssshhhhhhhh!

PLEASE don't give them any ideas!

And you can just see it, too. They'd all be in their little on-screen boxes, talking over each other, not making any sense whatsoever -- oh, that IS the way they sound anyway, isn't it?

It's getting to be a joke with people my age: I'm SO OLD, I remember when CNN was a news network.

P.S. Forgot to add in my earlier post: Bill Schneider would be brought in to discuss how this airline mishap will be GOOD for Bush's poll numbers!
