Poll question: Now that we know Tyson/Perdue Foods exploits undocumented workers- will
you continue to support or buy their foods? I believe 90% of their plants were forced to close yesterday due to the "Day Without Immigrants."

1. Exploitation...
Same reason I refuse to shop at Wal-Mart. Seems the only power "we the people" have these days is in where we spend our money.

2. I don't know...
I'm in love with Tyson's Tequila Lime wings--just bought some today. But from tomorrow onwards I may withdraw support.

4. Illegal Immigrants are now 12% of the Construction Biz.
I believe that this is what spurred the Congress to act upon the Illegal Immigration Issue.

3. Would it change if they were legal?
Do you think Tyson would pay them any more if they were legal?
I don't think they care about legal status. As long as they have a steady supply of labor at $9/hr or whatever it is they are paying these days. I havn't heard anywhere that undocumented workers are making less than minimum wage, which would be exploitation of their legal status.

9. I have personally worked with many who made less than minimum
wage, and handed them their checks on payday. Then again, this was a service business. I've never worked in a chicken plant.

10. Paying less than legal minimum by Check
is like handing the hangman the rope to string yourself up with.

7. unfortunately, it was news to me
I just read this on a site:

"In meat and poultry plants across the United States, Human Rights Watch found that many workers face a real danger of losing a limb, or even their lives, in unsafe work conditions. It also found that companies frequently deny workers’ compensation to employees injured on the job, intimidate and fire workers who try to organize, and exploit workers’ immigrant status in order to keep them quiet about abuses. 8. They were busted hiring buses to go pick them up at the border.
That was a few years ago. Please note how much the republicans in charge did to stop their exploitation. They're shameless and disgusting.
