Latest WillPitt article is out: A Turning Point
"A Turning Point
By William Rivers Pitt
t r u t h o u t | Perspective

Tuesday 02 May 2006

If all else fails, immortality can always be assured by spectacular error.

-- John Kenneth Galbraith

George W. Bush marked the three-year anniversary of "Mission Accomplished" in Iraq by declaring that a "turning point" has been reached in that shattered nation. His crotch-bulging strut across the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln, some 1,097 days ago, was intended to show America and the world that victory had been achieved. On May 1st, 2006, the best he could do was promise that victory might possibly come at some indeterminate point in the future.

This is, by the best estimates, the four hundred and twelfth "turning point" that has been reached in Iraq since the disastrous invasion was undertaken. One could argue that, in fact, this "turning point" is for real; after all, Condoleezza Rice and Donald Rumsfeld managed to go to Iraq and return without getting blown sideways out of a Humvee or without having their airplane shot down over Baghdad. That has to count for something. "

7. 412 "turning points"
That higher than Katherine Harris can count.

And how many lights at the end of the tunnel?

21. I believe if you take enough turning points
you wind up walking in circles. I also believe the light at the end of the tunnel with Bush in charge is an oncoming train.

17. Sorry to go meta
(but I never meta comment I didn't like!)

no, but seriously, reading H2Oman's post on the Libby filings, it sounds like there was an intentional effort to smear Jason Leopold, and smear Will Pitt with him. The possiblity that all of that weird negativity was part of a purposeful plan to derail our solidarity has got to be recognized.

Anyone who puts their passion and heart out there as Will Pitt does is sure to get bloodied in the battles still ahead. But it's the same feeling heart that fights as gets wounded. I have an abiding trust in the fortitude of Will Pitt's heart. I'm hopeful that he will continue to share his his concerns and insight with us. Let's hope!

18. I disagree with this quote:
...agent Plame was outed by the White House as punishment. In the three years since that happened, our knowledge of Iran's activities has devolved into a big black hole.

Bullshit.

Cheney's knowlegde of Iran's "activities" is just fine: he knows that nukes/nuke componenets are being smuggled into Iran via A. Q. Khan's nuclear Wal-mart network, and at his behest.

Valerie/Brewster Jennings had been tracking this activity and now no longer is doing so, so the smuggling will continue with impunity.

The current saber rattling against Iran is a precursor to the "discovery" of this "nuclear material" that somehow "got by the IAEA, inspectors, the UN and everyone else."

At which point we will bomb them (maybe even nuke them) preemptively.

How convenient that Iran now has such a hard-line, wing-nut president who would love to wipe Israel off the map. Everything just seems to line up just right for the neocons.

We are dealing with absolute, absolute traitors here. See American Judas for ref's.

23. yes but it ponts out the talking point that the outing is treason
It points out the hypocrisy of the Administration to on one hand be all "panicky" about Irans "nuclear" program while on the other hand they destroyed the one intelligence operation that let us know details about Irans "nuclear" program.

If you took the Admins claims of Irans nuke program at face value and believed the hype, then the very fact that they destroyed their intelligence operation on this program only underscores further the incompetence and danger of having these fucks in power.

19. How will history see them?
I think they'll see:

Bush: As a somewhat well-meaning but politically self-serving bungler, unable to strategize his way out of a paper bag. Way over his head as president, a failure at every turn. Valuing loyalty over competence, knew nothing better than to simply appoint his dad's cronies to office and then stand back and watch them run the presidency.

Rummy: An out-dated fool who was allowed to stay on the job because of Bush's pride and political goals. Powerful because the administration strengthened the Defense Dept. at the expense of the State Dept.(which was headed up in each term by tokens with little autonomy).

Cheney: He was, quite simply, the very personification of the Military-Industrial Complex. A Halliburton Hawk, gleefully sending our troops and resources into a profit-making power game.

26. "well meaning"? No way, Bush is a sociopath, there is no well meaning...
bone in thier bodies. They are self-serving liars. The latest example being...the Spanish anthem and him using it all over his 2000 campaign.

29. okay I should clarify that part--
I don't think he's well-meaning, but I think he will be seen as that. I don't think he cares for much at all, except his craven little self. He's emotionally immature and unable to really feel the pain of anyone else, much like an infant isn't.
